BI announced today that Global Mobilization will be the next 3rd party DLC. It has been in development for a few years. I thought it was going to be a regular mod, which is unfortunate.
Is this going to be a big trend upcoming for ARMA 3 and ARMA 4? The civilian flight sim and train sim market is pretty much dominated by payware at this point. For sure, a lot of it is good quality, but the really good freeware has been significantly reduced. Will this happen to ARMA 3 too?
From what I understand, most of the buildings are new/custom made. I thought I read somewhere that there is new vegetation as well, and not carried over from ARMA 3. The map/terrain will be ~400sqmm, albeit, probably mostly flat. I've read some comments from prominent terrain makers that they will be using GM assets in their terrains. Some might be running with and without versions of their maps.
What do you say, SimHQ A3 regulars, we in?

I say sure. It looks interesting, it would give us lots of new vehicles, terrain and weapons to explore and try out. It's not expensive either.

Hey, why all the German hate? They're nice guys!

Don't hate the Germans at all, I lived in Germany for 5 yrs, loved it. However, I waited those 5 yrs to see if the Warsaw Pact was coming over the border... so if this thing was full of the BAOR contingent and US forces I'd buy straight into it. As it stands, no... I won't indulge. If however at a later date the British and US are involved I'll buy it.

This might be the thing that finally makes me migrate from ArmA 2 to ArmA 3. Busily adapting my high command scripts now, and conducting some map recces of the area on Google Earth.
This is the first non-VR title that has me pumped for quite a while.
Have a look at the screenshot https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/568004920373149697/569135392964476949/doehren.png posted above, then go to 52°20'17.37"N, 11° 1'6.93"E on Google Earth and look NE. We are looking across an East German border town into West Germany, at a place where there is a bit of a border salient. You can see a border guard tower beyond the tower. The forests in the distance are in West Germany, while beyond that the East German border swings NW.

I can't wait to get home and start downloading.

By the way, Company of Hero's 2 is being given away free by Steam until May 5th. I believe. I think we all have it, but for anyone who does not ....

I’ve been playing Company of Heroes 2 since release. I think it’s been out about 3 years now?

By the way, last night I said I had Global Mobilization "loaded", I said that because I watched it "install" after downloading it last night. I just found out that in the Amra Loader you need to click on the menu item "DLC" third from the top, and then click and drag Global Mobilization from the "Available optional DLC" area, to the "Loaded Optional DLC" area, right above it. Then it loads.

Ok, I bought the DLC and downloaded it today. Thanks for that tip Prof! I'll have to do that as well later today.

We would love for you to join us for Military Mondays Tom! You just need to download the mods that we use.

I like the DLC so far. The terrain will be good for you SimHQers doing your Military Monday thing...lots of hull down opportunities, lots of places to fight over.
Biggest problem with this mod is that I cannot get this song out of my head right now...

I personally think its worth it for the map alone, but thats just me

i want my spetnatz, where is my spetnatiz so i can relieve the glorious days of defeating those imperialist pigs from Op flashpoint ? it was short but i really liked the russian missions, at least for me they were harder and closer to a war cenario. oh maybe it was just because i had the greatest time on them so nostalgia is filing my glass

When I first heard that song as a kid the only part I understood was “Captain Kirk”. After I started learning German in college though I understood quite a bit more.

Our group played it's first real session with GM last night. Interesting to see how much different things are without the armor vests we usually enjoy.
Good play, though. One of the missions was one of the COOP missions included with GM. It played well.

I've finished it - it was over sort of abruptly, I did not play it every day, 2-3 times a week, had I spent more time it would be over in a week.
some fun missions with the Leopard which could have lasted longer
a few infantry missions that were not bad - many more would have been welcome
only the Leopard and M-113, no M-113 missions and no Marders, that really was odd, the Marder should have been there and some missions should have been designed for the Marder.
the SP left me somewhat frustrated, not worth buying if it only for SP.

Another thing/issue from what I've read about this mod/DLC (I don't have this mod/DLC) is that it doesn't have any helicopters!
The scenario/setting of this DLC cries for a Bo-105/PAH-1 helicopter for the West Germany side and the Mi-24 for the East Germany side regarding armed helicopter/gunships (and UH-1 and Mi-8 for each side regarding cargo helicopters would be cool as well and make sense, IMO).

Looks like we're getting aircraft (helos and planes) in the Global Mobilization update. Hopefully it will be a free update. Estimated release: Summer sometime

I don't expect the vehicles to behave at a high fidelity simulation level but having those additions will be nice regardless. I also don't mind paying 5 or 10 bucks for the new content. I'm always happy to support developers who make games that are overall becoming rarer and rarer in today's marketplace.
