Yes, colours. Because that's how it's spelled :/

So DB posted his current colour setup, I'll let him re-post it here as he has screenshots. I don't have screenshots yet but playing with this tool:
http://arkku.com/elite/hud_editor/

shows what you might expect to see with the slider values used in your .xml file.

So I don't really mind the default orange myself, I can live with it.
Default:
Red > 1, 0, 0
Green > 0, 1, 0
Blue > 0, 0, 1

But using the above tool I did a simple thing and changed the orange to yellow:
Red > 1, 1, 0
Green > 0, 1, 0
Blue > 0, 0, 1

and straight away saw an improvement. To my eyes anyway, what we decide to like is probably going to differ quite a lot wink

I also saw an interesting effect by exactly inverting the default settings:
Red > 0, 1, 1
Green > 1, 0, 1
Blue > 1, 1, 0

I'll maybe post screenshots at some point, but you can try those two right in the tool page. How they'll look ingame I don't know yet, sometimes these things seem good in theory but just.... don't work in practice. Quote from me from anther thread concerning my HUD colour concerns:

Good idea for a thread. A HUD color repository as it were.

Screenshot of my current HUD. Soothing two-tone blue theme. Not too dark in menus, not too bright near stars. Sea Foam green for friends.

[Linked Image]

Red > 0, 0.15, 1
Green > 0, 1, 0.87
Blue > 1, 0.46, 0.24

Disclaimer. Those settings should be for a slightly different scheme, but that's what I got. Will double check later that I made no mistake here. I'm curious if anyone tries these settings whether you get a HUD like this or like Wingy's?

I did double check and they are correct. Wonder why for example my shield rings are white and Wingy's are orange. Just curious as I actually like the scheme I stumbled on.

There is a HUD COLOR Repository here:

Frontier Forums NO2O! HUD Gallery

There is also a tool called ED PROFILER that has PRESETS for all of these... once you know how to find it. Needed to enlist Wingy and Bo to talk me through ED Profiler Setup. There are a LOT of HUD EDITING HOW TO's out there that are OBSOLETE for the current version... but ED PROFILER worked once I let it create the Graphic Override xml file where it wanted vs. where I found it...and manually edited over and over with no effect...

I implemented Wingy's preferred scheme but he mentioned that enemies weren't RED on the radar.

EDProfiler is awesome, second big thumbs up on it!
I like the fact that I can use it to pre-set the in game settings so if I'm just looking something up/checking a fitting/etc I can change it to not use the HMD without fooling around with the headset.

I was using EDprofiler and Wingy’s profile up until yesterday. Went to open EDProfiler and got an error message about a non-compatible file. Had to wipe my graphics settings and redo them in game. Got Profiler back working, it frankly I couldn’t be arsed to change the hud. Realized that I missed the default ship icon colors in the scanner. Gonna stick with ghastly orange for a while.

I feel your pain, Scanner colors are probably the only reason I don’t change my colors as well.

Haven't done any combat since changing my HUD, so I don't know exactly how well I like my new scheme, but ENEMIES are RED and FRIENDLIES are BLUE.. I hope COPS are GREEN too...

One thing that bothers me, though, is that the DEEP RED color that also is used when my DSS Scanner is INACTIVE is UNREADABLE.. Might have to adjust slightly by messing with the sliders...

Mystery solved. When I asked Wingy for his settings, he must have gone to the NO2O gallery and copied the matrix, but copied the scheme directly above the one he is using, and that's why my HUD was a different one. I liked it fine, just different. Since my reinstall I am using the one described as "Dark Deep Sky Blue / Gold", same one Wingy's using.

Thanks again for posting that link Recluse. Really handy!

Nothing like a brand new gaming PC to make you address all your options!!

I am using that DARK DEEP SKY BLUE/GOLD but may change due to issues described above. Also, it is funny that NOW the Analysis HUD is GOLD and the COMBAT HUD is BLUE. It was the opposite in the original configuration, but as I am getting used to it, I may leave it alone. I still have a moment of WTF!! when I go to honk and get the message that the ACTION IS NOT SUPPORTED..

I thought Wingy was using

Yeah, he must have copied the wrong Matrix, because in the thread he does say "NO2O Deep Sky-Dodger Blue / Dark Orange"

Is he? Maybe so, they are close right?

I had asked him for his matrix to reproduce the HUD he was using when he posted the My Home System thread.

https://i.imgur.com/kRkGKGk.png

He gave me the matrix for the one I show above in the second post, called "Deep Sky Blue / Light Salmon". So I assumed he made a simple copy mistake and was using the one right below it, called "Dark Deep Sky Blue / Gold". But perhaps it is a different one. No matter, as I like this one fine, and it has the color separation I want. Hostiles are red.

The one right below THAT one is the Deep Sky-Dodger Blue / Dark Orange.

Yeah. I switched from Deep Sky-Dodger Blue / Dark Orange to the Dark Deep Sky Blue / Gold because of the Friendly/Enemy color codes.

Otherwise they are close. My only complaints are the DARK RED DSS Indicator is hard to read when it goes from "OUT OF RANGE" to "TOO FAST", but I always go to 0.18-0.25 Ls anyway so I ignore it. That and the switch up in colors between Analysis and COMBAT HUDS. I don't think I have actually DONE any COMBAT since I installed it right before my Exploration journey so I'll see how it goes.

I am ALMOST HOME... According to EDSM estimate, I should end up with about 195 Million worth of SCAN DATA when I get home.. I am sitting at 70% Ranger, so that should get me A LOT of the way through PIONEER. Have to keep scanning/mapping aorund the bubble to hit ELITE..

I reckon you'll hit around 75% Pioneer at 195m. It takes 200m to go from 0% Pioneer to Elite. Almost there!

Thanks for the HUD help Rec.

Yeah that's about what I figured. If I can't amass the additional ~50 mill tooling around, I will take another quick jaunt to the Black and maybe visit some of the Galactic Attractions within about 1000 light years of the bubble.

No problem with the HUD.. LOL.. I didn't even know that I could change from the Default Orange (which I honestly didn't mind) until this topic came up here..

Careful with the EDSM estimations. I am now deep in the dark, just yesterday entered the Formidine Rift, >10kly from the bubble. One would think that this region would be barely explored, but the stars are so scarce that most systems have already been explored by someone (usually multiple commanders), and EDSM sometimes lists 20+ visitors to the system. As said, no surprise as the stars are few, and along with the time back when there was no engineering and guardian FSD boosters, visitors to such regions had to visit many more systems to move along.
With that said, it is not unusual to find systems that are not "populated" in EDSM, but show a fully polulated system map in the game. Thus, when FSS scanning and DSS probing valuable bodies in such systems, EDSM assumes I will get first scan+map bonusses (like ~2.5 million for probing a terraformable WW), while I will really only get the standard payment with no bonus. Of course, in most cases these places have been visited pre-3.3, thus I will often still get the mapping bonus...
EDSM currently estimates the value of my data of the current trip to 384 million - I estimate it will be closer to 300-320 million.
As example this system, Myoideau MS-U d2-1, where the terraformable HMC is listed as first scanned and mapped for EDSM by me (CMDR Prowler) - of course I was not the first - maybe 1st mapped, but certainly not scanned.

You are absolutely correct!!! When I turned in my data, the EDSM estimate was a bit more than 202 million. Final tally was 162.6 million. About 40 mil less than predicted. Minus the 10% tithe to my Elite Fighter Pilot, who spent the trip sitting on her ass drinking in some bar while I was out there, it ended up about 50 million less than I was expecting. Still got me from 70% Ranger to 69% Pioneer, so I have about another 60 million to Elite...

In my case, the discrepancy didn't seem to come from erroneous FIRST DISCOVERIES.

Also, what's up with the "FRONTIER REGULATION"?? On the forums, it says that when you log in, there is a calculation of what the game THINKS you have vs. what your really have and that is the "FRONTIER REGULATION". There was a 3 million credit discrepancy here... where does THAT come from??
