HMS Warspite was Britain's USS Enterprise (CV-6), both countries shamefully failed to preserve their most storied WWII naval vessels.

Cheers all, i'm currently attempting to destroy my base by adding foamy waves. Speaking of the wreck, i googled mapped its location a while back and using an old black and white pic that shows people standing at a small turreted fort? (St Michaels Mount) looking at the beached hull you can get a pretty smack bang on 3d view of where it was finally beached. I'm guessing the remains now are possibly just the very bottom of the hull?

Edit, some info here https://www.submerged.co.uk/hms-warspite-3/

I'm sure that the Warspite was further out than that when I saw her. Was it the Lizard reef possibly? I could be wrong, I was only 4 or 5 years old but bloody interested in battleships even then. smile

Warspite went aground on one side of the headland, was wrecked but floated after some recovery actions. She was fairly close in at that point.

When moved she was taken (with much difficulty) to a point just offshore and beyond Mt St Michael in the bay beyond where most of her was scrapped and removed. Scattered fragments are all that remain.

If she was 'far out' then you probably saw her after she was moved, during the process of breaking up in situ.

I'm sure you're correct Lieste, thanks. She was just a grey shape out at sea with waves breaking over her. A sad end for a fine ship.

This pic at St Michaels Mount was one i was looking at

Which appears to be this spot on Google maps. Edit- Relooking at this in maps and realised that town across the way is Penzance, as in The Pirates of Penzance?

Second coat of Teak stain on my soon to be frame. Just did a third one tonight and four will probably pull it up. I am still a bit unsure on the wood grain and the colour itself, but, the last couple of days it has been slowly growing on me. I nearly changed it to a dark charcoal but am holding back until i see what the last coat looks like.

Waves have been a combo of paint mixed with the gel medium and some dry brushing on top followed by the still water which is all of the splotchy effect hiding the actual wave finish atm. I tried out a paper and glue mix but it just went clumpy so i gave it the sack.

[Linked Image]

After all of the different layers of paint and product it still ended up only being between a mil or two on top of the foam which was surprising. The waves are deeper but most of that is built up paper anyway.

Nearly done with the ocean, then some lower hull clean up and back to building the ship.

Continuing rain, overcast, cold, and just gross winter weather has the whole household stuck indoors with the flu for the last few days. Everything has been taking ages to dry and set, glue, varnish etc which has made my framing rather slow..but it's getting there. Corners have been semi rounded awaiting for the whole assembly to dry so i can sand them. My dodgy clamp system has been (hopefully) keeping it all tight while it dries. Hoping tomorrow i can unclamp it , sand those corners and get some coats on them. Started on the anchor chains as well, trimmed up the supplied chain that comes with the pe kit to fit, still a few little pieces to be added to finish it off.

The next ship gets the frame built first, not as an afterthought. The gaps between the frame and the water were fairly large along the top and uneven in a lot of spots so really hoping the glue and screws hold her all tight once i release it. There is nearly a half bottle of wood glue dribbled down between the frame and the foam over the last week with drying time in between and then some water effect on top to hide the glue filled gap where it meets the frame.Fingers crossed!

Hoping so smile

Big guns! Only the super firing turrets will have the AA buckets, personal choice as i prefer the turrets clean look.

[Linked Image]

I've had to dirty them up as since i rusted the hull so much they looked out of place being as clean as they were. Starting to add the buckets and small cal AA on the deck as well. Lots of little paint repairs and touch ups needing to be done on various areas, the more i look, the more i see.

Awesome work. One small nit, the gun tub walls are very thick. Replace with thin wall brass or aluminum tubing?

Yeah they are well terrible. I didn't even think of tubing! Next build, this one is already well over budget plus the buckets are zap a gapped to the wooden deck and things could get messy trying to pull them up. Either the AA guns are overscaled or the mount is too tall as i have had to slice height of all of them as well.

Ajay;

As a guy who spent most of his life in or on the sea; Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, and the Pacific Ocean, I have to say your water modeling and coloring is both quite realistic looking and beautiful work.

Once again, we have work posted here that is more akin to art than just modeling.

Thanks for sharing sir.

Cheers Nixer, i felt i had gone a bit much on weathering but became comfortable in what i was doing and how it is all working together, i'm happy with it now as opposed to when i first did the hull. The problem i have is translating it correctly as the camera seems to wash out the detail and the shots can come off a bit bland. Still working on that side of it.

Really appreciate the comment mate, i'm giving her my best smile

Two pics here, worked a bit more adding to the white on the bow waves and glued down the bridge and some superstructure. Front section of the deck has been slightly weathered to take away a bit of the rawness as it was really glaring and the bottom pic has some colours tweaked to try and pop out the weathering. The join in the middle and front deck bothers me so i may finely slice some left over deck and see if i can hide it. Captain has been warned about a future keelhauling if he doesn't smarten her up. Hopefully i will be able to pick up (another) railing set this week so i can finish that side of it off, also, i found some 1/350 RN sailors but they are a preorder item so will take a few weeks from Europe. I think it would look cool to get some life on the decks and give a sense of scale.
