Looks to be a 1/350th Walrus.. possibly Trumpeter, so a RN Cruiser or Battleship - Couldn't guess which you would select, but I'd be drawn to HMS Exeter, or Prince of Wales if I were to build one myself...

Lieste was nearly bang on, 1/350th RN Battleship ...

[Linked Image]

Although if i do stumble across a decent King Kong model, that would be frikking cool!

Fw190 for scale

[Linked Image]

And just so you can see the stupid small bits here are the sprues

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

The pile, i have an idea to spruce up the turrets, we'll see how that goes further on down the track.

[Linked Image]

Some PE for the cranes

[Linked Image]

A semi helpful and really dark paint guide, plenty of sources available elsewhere to get this sorted anyway.

[Linked Image]

The supplied base, i won't use this as i think it's ugly. Well, i may use this piece but will not use the two doorknob looking mounts that join this to the hull. Thinking of making some cradles to support it as if it is in dry dock.

[Linked Image]

Hull cast marks that will need sanding and filling

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

I waited until these items turned up before i started any work. Pontos wooden deck, a rust wash, pin vise with drill bits and some micro kristal for making windows/clear sections. The deck kit included some chain and more PE so that saved me from looking around for chain as i didn't want to use the supplied moulded piece.

[Linked Image]

So that's (hopefully) everything i need, time to get cracking!

I had Warspite, Iron Duke, Scharnhorst and Bismark in 1/600 Airfiix 30 odd years ago, and my first was a waterline 1/700 Matchbox Exeter.

The only 1/350 I've had is an Emden I picked up for £5 from a charity shop a few months ago... ... actually that isn't *quite* true - I also had some 1/300 or 1/350 or thereabouts Landing Craft as part of one of my Wargaming forces.

The hull. Three braces gluing in so i can join the hull.

[Linked Image]

The joining

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

Puttied and sanded

[Linked Image]

Waiting for the hull to dry after sanding and rinsing it down i moved onto trimming the smaller AA, putting the pom poms together and getting some primer down.

[Linked Image]

The pom poms looked rather bland so i decided to drill out the barrels. Started with the smaller .3mm but moved onto the .4. Any holes i did not get centered were filled with a tiny drop of glue and redone. These also needed/will need trimming, sanding and some blade work to pick out detail as they are a bit rough straight from the kit.

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

I managed to break the drill bit by dropping it but had enough tip left to lock in and finish off.

[Linked Image]

I had originally purchased the pin vise to drill out all of the portholes to be then filled with the Micro Kristal..but i am unsure if the portholes had a glass option or were just a steel plate window? Still researching that before i go mad drilling them all out. Raining here for the last couple of days so that's put a hold on priming and painting the hull and the Bahrain F1 qually tonight and race tomorrow kills that window. I need to start practising using sprue for making the rigging, the Academy sprue i tried seems to soft when heated and stretched so hopefully the Tamiya stuff i have is better, otherwise i'll just grab some Ez Line.

Cheers all.

I built Hood and Bismark in 1/600 or 1/700 about the same time ago myself and a 1/350 Mushashi with a small battery powered motor one christmas in the early '80's. The Mushashi managed to float and poke around rather slowly which i was happy with. No idea whatever ended up happening with those models. The kids want me to build a Titanic model to put in the lounge room, but if i do a Titanic i want leds and some more detail that i am not really excited about doing yet. The Emden should end up being a pretty nice looking display kit, are you going to knock it out?

Aft deck, fantail, poop deck, stern walkway, rear obs deck..whatever this rear balcony is called it lacks any detail. I've added some card to make up for some of it with some supports (black lines) for the canvas top still to be made up to try and fill it out.

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

Hull primed and needing a light sand. I've been using the T34 in the background as a tester for the rust wash.

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

20mm AA. Knocked back the barrel colour a bit, painted the magazines black to pop out some detail, grips are brown. Still need to to do the support leg in the ship colour.

[Linked Image]

Pom pom barrels are done. The brown was just the left over from the 20mm grips so i splashed a coat on the sides to help fill up some gaps. Still trying to find out what colour they should be. I've seen a brassy colour and then just the ship grey.

[Linked Image]

Bridge, feel free to jump in and correct me if i'm wrong with any of these names. Puttied and sanded.

[Linked Image]

Plane hangars, for want of the correct term

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

Chart room/radar room/navigating bridge? Needs a small amount of filler.

[Linked Image]

Upper bridge platform, some sort of control room?

[Linked Image]

Funnel, needs sanding and another putty pass.

That's good, because they are not real, yet smile That is just some lines drawn in a paint program to show what i need to make to finish off that piece. The original just has the tarp hovering over the deck and it looks really bare. Worse than that, i think i just discovered the kit does not supply any railings so i either have to knock a ships worth up, or buy a pe kit. Ugh.

Just shelled out for a Life Colour RN Western approaches paint set which gives me

Admiralty Dark Grey (507 A)
Admiralty Medium Grey (507 B)
Admiralty Light Grey (507 C)

Plus a couple of other colours. Those are the main three i need as well as hull red of which i will use Tamiyas and then mix to lighten it a bit. After much research i also grabbed a generic 1/350 PE WWII RN railing set that comes with ladders as a bonus, sounds like fun biggrin

PE really adds to a model’s final appearance. Back when I was building 1/35 armor, I found that it was a huge boon. Wasn’t really a fan of trying to get the bends and final fit correct.

Ajay, are you doing the 1942 or 1943 colour scheme?

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Man, that is very fine and detailed work for something that small. I’m impressed.

'43. The '42 camo reminds of WoWs too much plus i like the softer lines of the later scheme.

HMS Warspite was to Great Britain as USS Enterprise was to the United States. It is a shame both were not saved.

Great build, looking forward to watching this one! I have a 1/350 USS Indianapolis I am saving until I have the time and money (for EB) to do her right!
