So there's this guy named Jack. He's a struggling musician. I mean, really struggling. His last gig was playing for children. Four children. As he's riding his bicycle home that night there's this weird worldwide power outage and he gets hit by a car and ends up in a coma for a few days. When he gets out of the hospital his friends give him a new guitar (I guess his old one was broken in the accident, I don't know...don't bother me with details). He sits down and plays the song "Yesterday". He's really good, by the way. Excellent solo guitarist and very nice voice. But I digress.
When he finishes one of his friends turns to him and says, "That was beautiful. When did you write it?" (give her a break, she's a millennial). He tells her that Paul McCartney wrote it and she gives him a quizzical look (Millennial, remember?). He says, "Paul McCartney. You know, the Beatles?" But she still doesn't know who he's talking about. None of his friends knows who he's talking about. In fact NO ONE knows who he's talking about.
That's right. The power outage created some sort of wrinkle in spacetime (or maybe it was caused by some sort of wrinkle in spacetime) and now he's the only person on Earth who's ever heard of the Beatles. So he becomes the world's greatest singer/songwriter/musician by "writing" the entire Beatles library of music.
The movie is called "Yesterday" and I don't know what you'll be doing on June 28th, but I'm going to have my fat butt in a movie theater seat watching it.
SALUTE TO ALL!

I have DiercTV, PM. One of the channels is AXS (pronounced "Access", get it? ). One of the shows they have is called "Nothing But Trailers" and, yeah, that's exactly what it is, one hour of trailers. They usually start showing up there several weeks before they do on network shows and tend to disappear about four to six weeks before the movie releases. This one actually appeared first on Monday, 2/26.

The question is, would the Beatles and their songs be such a big thing if they were created in 2019? Most likely no. Why? Pop/mainstream music preferences change significantly over time as the consumers change. It's just a fact of the universe. This is not to say that young consumers today don't discover Beatles music and end up liking it but it's a small minority.

..they also couldnt sing ... Sure, none of them were Freddy Mercury level vocal quality but John, Paul and George were decent. We won't discuss Ringo though.

Good singers are a dime a dozen. Musical talent plus the ability to entertain plus the right combination of people...that’s rare. A great band is worth more than the sum of its parts. That’s what those singing shows don’t get. You aren’t likely to hit it big if you just sing other peoples’ songs and have no band. Cover artists and karaoke enthusiasts don’t hit it big.

Hmmm... Amazon Music has Beatles stuff out the wazoo. If Apple has exclusive digital distribution rights on the Beatles music, is there some arrangement where Amazon is paying Apple something for it? Just curious, as I haven't followed any developments on that.
That would also be my guess unless those rights held by Apple are no longer exclusive. Stuff in the business world changes pretty rapidly so I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case.

Didn't Michael Jackson own all the Beatles music rights at one time?? He owned a large portion of the rights which he later on sold because he was in so much debt late in his career.

As of last year, AFAIK, Paul is the owner of the Beatles catalog. However, since this case dealt with what MJ, and Sony, used to own. It may not apply to certain digital rights.

..they also couldnt sing ... I gotta disagree with that.... McCartney is one of the great rock voices of all time... not just talent but having a "distinctive" voice as well ...in fact, thinking about it, he would definitely be in the top 10: - just off the top of my head McCartney Paul Rogers Robert Plant Ann Wilson Steve Walsh Freddie Mercury Ronnie James Dio Lou Gramm Steve Perry Roger Daltrey ...corrected, wrong wilson sister

Nancy Wilson ... Ummm...I assume you were thinking of Ann Wilson. Nancy only ever sang backup vocals and is definitely not known for her vocal skills. Having seen both Heart and Ann Wilson as a solo artist, I am fairly confident in my statement. EDIT: Aside from that. Paul has a great voice, having seen him with Wings and as a solo artist several times. John had a great voice as well. Just listen to his solo work.
