It just further proves that musical talent as well as any artistic talent in general is largely genetic.

Hard to say Panzer. That kid could have been practicing since four years...

Practice does indeed help but raw "natural" talent has got to be there in the first place.

I could play the piano for hours every day but I'll never be good enough to even play a piano at some strip mall.

I agree with Panzer. I've been playing guitar for over 50 years sometimes for money, but most times because I just like it. There are guys with masters degrees in music who practice for hours and there are guys who can just PLAY ....they still need to practice ...but there is an innate talent that you just must have in order to be great

+1 to Archie, too. more than fifty years (off and on) and I couldn't come close to that.

He sure has the guitar player's facial expression thing down. The kid sure does seem to have some soul. Seems a bit young to really understand the Blues though. LOL. biggrin

And then people who "can just PLAY" but can't tune a guitar by ear! As in actually nailing a tuning - anyone can use the fifth and fourth frets and tune (to the extent that that technique works, that's really just a starting point for most guitars), but accurately tuning the guitar to a certain note/key? Haven't met many players who can do that by ear...

Just my 2 cents but unless you are going to be a music teacher/professor, having a degree in the field is pretty much as waste of time and money.

If you already have that natural musical performance ability I don't think getting a music degree is going to really be necessary. Did Guns N Roses or the Beatles get degrees in music? LOL

Hmm, not that a degree guarantees anything (no matter what it is), but I know someone who got a masters degree in music - which ended up taking this guy into a completely non music related path and making more money than he knows what to do with...

Just possession of that masters degree opened up some doors for him he never even knocked on...
