So piggybacking on the other thread talking about games you uninstalled, I'm wondering what game or games you enjoy that you wish other people would try, but don't, or haven't even heard about. Flight sims are an obvious ignored genre, but besides them, what have you been playing that is exceptional that just hasn't sold that well?
I'll start.
Overload.
If you played Descent 1, 2 and 3 back in the day, Overload is a fantastic homage to those games. So much that it even copied many enemies from the original games, but with modern graphics and effects. The original composers even made the soundtrack! And the level design is wonderful. Great game, and I wish other Descent lovers would try it, because I know there are more out there.

The most recent game that I've played and I'm still playing which I know did not do well commercially is "Total War: Thrones of Britannia".
Maybe this didn't sell well because of the limited time period and geographical setting? Who knows.
I highly recommend the game though to any veteran Total War player who has even the slightest interest in early Medieval Britain. The 3D combat is very well done and this is by far the prettiest looking Total War title. The playable map area is even based on actual satellite data!

My entry would be "Neo Turf Masters", an arcade game from back in the 1990s. It was also available for home play via SNK's Neo Geo console back in the day, and later on the Nintendo Wii as part of an SNK Neo Geo classics collection.
Today, it's for sale on GOG, sometimes for as low as $1.49. At that price it's a steal, IMO. I've been playing this game for at least 10 years, a round or two every couple weeks or months.
Yes, it's an arcade game. Yes, it's got a few graphical and audio glitches (that were apparently always there, even in the arcades). And yes, some of it's a bit corny. But IMO the play is really solid, and challenging to score well consistently. Most importantly, I have fun playing it.
EDIT: And how could I forget... the music is great for each course!

Command Ops, by Panther Games. A development of the earlier Highway to the Reich, Conquest of the Aegean and Red Devils Over Arnhem.
A detailed wargame in operational scale, with individual weapon systems represented within their company and battalion formations at Regiment to Army scales of deployment... but with the command AI and continuous pausable time there is next to no micro-management required, beyond the broad staff work of developing plans and contingencies, and your balancing of commitment and holding reserves of troops and ammunition to continue to develop the defence or offence mission. The level at which you intervene can vary between a single direction given to highest HQ, down to setting individual companies to act as probes or flank guards. The over-management of control disrupts efficient command and increases command delays. "Two levels down" is usually a reasonable main level of interference, with a few exceptions for specialist troops. Have you tried Command Ops 2, Lieste? Seems the basic game with 3 scenarios is available free on Steam. With several DLCs which covers some of the ComOps 1 expansions (and earlier games)

Battlezone II is one of those games... ahead of it's time, back in 1999 and still pretty good today.

I wish more people were into Mil-sims in general, just so the genre could thrive.

Yeah, I have read some reviews about it and it's just a graphics update which doesn't look all that good.

I really started to enjoy work sims during the last two years. Before that simulations I played were only combat and civil aviation sims like we have in SimHQ's subforums (plural: subfori?). This happened because I changed jobs and came into an office where one of the coworkers happened to be a Farming Simulator modding veteran.
While we talked about our hobbies during breaks he introduced me to the Car Mechanic Simulation series. As a former car mechanic apprentice he enjoyed it very much. When it was on sale I purchased the 2015 version. I instantly became hooked by its gameplay.
At its heart Car Mechanic Simulator is a 3D puzzle where the object is any car, which can be disassembled, checked for broken parts, and reassembled with new and repaired parts. I learned more things about cars playing this game than in all my life before. The game also offers a small business part and level-ups in exchange for experience gained by successful repairs which translates into QoL enhancements like diagnostic tools and other repair options.
The gameplay of CMS is also very similar to PC Building Simulator, Plane Mechanic Simulator (where you maintain and repair British planes during WWII) and House Flipper, which all seem to originate with other work-related sims from Poland.
Other work sims/games I started under the influence of CMS: Euro Truck Simulator 2/American Truck Simulator (now played 300+ hours in Steam inside 2017-2019), Fishing: Barents Sea, Derail Valley, Electrix: Electro Mechanic Simulator DEMO (pre-Early Access)

Mr. Blastman
Thanks for the info re Overoad. I really enjoyed the original descent so I got Overload when you mentioned it (there is a playable demo for those interested).
There was an attempt at a remake a while ago "Descent Underground". A BIG disappointment. Overload seems pretty good so far. Glad you like it! Fun game. I can tell some heart went into making it.

To each their own of course but I would be utterly bored playing something like a farming simulator or a city bus driver simulator. The way I see it is why bother recreating the same mundane things of real life in a game?

I've always been interested in WoFF but i don't want to do the flight sim jump through hoops to install and which mod is the mod anymore. WOFF UE is the culmination of the WOFF series, plus much much more new stuff. It is complete and needs no mods, no hoops to jump through to use it. Simply buy it , patch it one time with the latest patch(latest patch contains all previously released patches)and you are good to go with unlimited hours of WWI combat flying, from training all the way to the end of the Great War. It is customizable in just about any way that you want to through the stock options. Now, there are some great mods available from the Community, but they are definitely NOT required to enjoy or upgrade WOFF UE to an enjoyable state. WOFF UE is good to go right out of the box with one patch. No Fuss, No Muss! Check it out. S!Blade<><
