AMD Radeon RX 590 and Radeon RX 580 Rumored To Get Price Cuts In The Coming Weeks – Prices Down To $229 US and $199 US, Respectively

It was .. recently rumored that AMD might be introducing their Radeon [7nm] Navi GPUs in July aiming the mainstream segment so it’s highly likely that they are clearing inventory of Polaris cards before the arrival of next-gen parts.

Both cards have the same GPU configuration of 2304 stream processors, 144 TMUs and 32 ROPs. Both cards even feature the same memory configuration of 8 GB GDDR5 VRAM .. the RX 590 utilizes the 12nm process to deliver clock speeds of up to 1545 MHz.

Today, Newegg has three RX580 models on sale for $190 (one adds a $20 rebate) with two free games (ostensibly worth over $100).

New laptop drivers for latest AMD laptop chips are in the latest AMD GPU driver update 19.2.3 (released yesterday).. Good performance boost.

Quote
Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.2.3 Highlights

Support For

AMD Ryzen™ Mobile Processors with Radeon™ Vega Graphics

Up to 10% average performance gains .. vs. 17.40 launch drivers..
Up to 17% average performance gains in eSports™ titles ...

Indicates the issue with testing new AMD (or Nvidia) CPUs and GPUs -- usually, the first drivers are not optimized. So, one cannot fairly compare a new design GPU to an established GPU until the drivers are fully optimized (usually takes months, not days).

AMD Introduces Radeon FreeSync 2 HDR Oasis Demo, An Upgrade Over The Windmill Demo

new FreeSync 2 HDR Oasis Demo, not .. a benchmark tool.

The demo is designed to showcase the benefits of FreeSync .. with a large array of control features and supporting HDR..

This push for really exploring their benefits with FreeSync 2 makes a lot of sense with the recent Adaptive Sync support coming from [Nvidia] and by the end of 2020 we’ll see Intel doing the same

One reason I'm an AMD GPU fan is that their chips have often lead the way with useful advancements built in -- that make a positive improvement in gaming graphics and professional applications (e.g. tessellation, good DX12 support, cost-effective FreeSync, effective compute functionality). Looks like the industry is moving towards FreeSync (over competing alternatives).

AMD Next-Gen Radeon GPUs To Feature Variable Rate Shading For Faster Frame Rates, May Launch With Upcoming RX Navi Graphics Cards

In a patent filed by AMD back in 2017, which was recently made public, it is stated that AMD was investing resources in developing advanced GPU shading technologies, namely, Variable Rate Shading (VRS)

The said feature isn’t something new in the industry as NVIDIA has already introduced Variable Rate Shading on their Turing architecture-based graphics cards.

In simple terms, VRS will apply full details on sections of the frames where most of the attention is focused while reducing the rendering load on other parts, thus increasing overall performance. This method specifically helps when running games at higher resolutions.

AMD is expected to launch their next-generation Radeon cards based on the Navi GPU architecture this year so we may very well see them featuring VRS.

The article "speculates" regarding AMD VRS. There is no solid leak yet. As noted, Nvidia already has a version of VRS in their latest cards and it increases FPS in supported games..

VRS raises FPS by selectively lowering image resolution. Some folks may not like the trade off.

This could easily be erroneous AMD 7nm CPU information. I hesitate to post it. Nice if it turns out true.

...the specifications and CPUs listed by the retailer seem to be a placeholder but since we are seeing these being mentioned on various channels, there might just be some legitimacy to it. Still, it’s advised to take all of this info with a grain of salt ...

We'll see in July.

Nvidia and AMD GPU Oversupply to Last Until Summer - Report

..the crypto bust left AMD and Nvidia with an excess amount of GPUs, the Jon Peddie Research group says this will continue on for almost half a year (up to this summer).

You can buy GTX 1060s and RX 580s comfortably within the low-$200 range, or even cheaper sometimes, and RX 570s are going for the mid-$100s during seemingly regular sales.

Although cards such as the GTX 1080 and 1080Ti are in short supply and thus command high prices, cards like the GTX 1070 and 1060, and the RX Vega 56, 580, and 570, are still in high supply and are consequently much cheaper than they were during the cryptomining craze. AMD's GPUs even come with free games, further increasing the value. Now is a great time to buy a last-gen GPU,

As previously mentioned, I've taken advantage of the low RX580 prices ($165 - $190) to replace/upgrade a couple out-of-date AMD GPUs.

We have 8 computers around the house -- only 2 are on all the time and only 2 more get regular use. A year ago, most of the 8 had out of date AMD cards (like HD5000 series and HD7000 series). With the low RX580 prices I could not resist updating.

Today, I ordered the third RX580 for $170 with 2 free games (already got the game deal with an earlier RX580 on sale for $165). That makes three RX580 and brings our 2'd string PCs relatively up to date for a while. Of course, I don't really expect to always see the difference in day to day use -- but, the drivers will be regularly updated and will be in sync with W10 features which is an improvement on the older cards.

I hope I can rationalize a 7nm AMD Navi GPU when they arrive this summer (i.e. I hope one actually out performs what I have at a reasonable price). If so, one of the grand kids will get a hand-me-down RX580.

Just after the post about a $170 RX580 with 2 free games (on sale) -- the other side of the coin:

Competition is good smile Unfortunately, there is no competition at this level of performance. And, without AMD there would be no competition -- period -- at any gaming level of performance.

AMD might make a killing from new Intel chip bug

All Chipzilla chips open to new Spoiler non-Spectre attack

They looked for the same weakness in Arm and AMD processor cores but didn't find the same behaviour that is present in Intel chips.

Intel won't be able to use software mitigation to address the problem Spoiler exploits fully. Meanwhile, hardware mitigations could address the issue but would almost certainly mean a hit on CPU performance.

Analyst Ken Kam of Marketocracy Capital Management said that AMD should be able to take advantage of this flaw....“If Intel now also needs to redesign their processors to address Spoiler I cannot see how this can be accomplished in less than five years. That's enough time for AMD to take significant market share,”

Article

They wrote that this applies to all Intel CPUs from 1st generation to current (and probably the next couple generations, they speculate). I speculate that gaming computers are not likely to be hacked using "Spoiler". However, a mandatory fix might slow them a bit.

EXCLUSIVE: Gaming Laptop MSRPs Are About To Get More Affordable With AMD Ryzen [CPU] and NVIDIA’s Turing GPUs

I have received confirmation from three different OEMs that they are expecting to launch laptops with AMD’s Ryzen 12nm processors and NVIDIA Turing graphics for as low as $1099.

..AMD Ryzen 3rd Gen mobility CPU and GTX 1660 Ti combo will start from $1099.. an AMD Ryzen 3rd Gen mobility CPU and an RTX 2060 will be $1299..I have no doubt that you will be able to see the same basic configuration for $999 during promotional events.

An NVIDIA Turing 1660 Ti .. should be able to play just about everything at 1080p resolution at high settings.

Now the question that remains is how soon can you get your hands on these laptops? Well, sooner than you might think. I have more information in the pipeline, so stay tuned!

AMD Ryzen 3000 Series CPUs Aiming Mid-2019 Launch, 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper in 2019, Confirmed – Zen 2 Cores, Higher Clocks and More

AMD has confirmed that their 3rd Generation Ryzen and Ryzen Threadripper processors will be launching this year.

AMD has made significant changes to their CPU architecture which help deliver twice the throughput of their first generation Zen architecture.

Zen 2 also includes stronger hardware level enhancements when it comes to security. This further solidifies AMD CPUs against enhanced Spectre variants

AMD will also be hosting a public demonstration of their Ryzen 3000 series processors early at Computex 2019 but the actual launch would take place a month later

The CPUs will also be getting a major core bumps but AMD would like to keep prices close to current levels.

[New X570 MBs coming but] like last time, the new CPUs will be backward compatible with X470 & X370 boards

To be shown at COMPUTEX Taipei 2019 Show Start Date : 28 May 2019 Show End Date : 01 June 2019 and on-sale a month later.

If rumor true, I'll be seriously considering Ryzen 9 3850X. We'll see.

NVIDIA Discrete GPU Market Share Grew To 81.2%, AMD Fell To 18.8% During Q4 2018 – Worst Fourth Quarter For AIBs in Over 10 Years

RX mainstream cards based on the Navi architecture are supposed to hit the market around Q3 2019. It will be interesting to see if NVIDIA can maintain their lead in the coming months or not.

Some of the difference is due to new Nvidia GPUs coming on the market -- while AMD is still selling last year's models.

One attachment shows how many readers of the article use Nvidia vs AMD. As usual in these readership surveys (presumably informed serious gamers), AMD scores closer to Nvidia. The same things happen when the survey compares Intel and AMD -- its fairly close. However, in a previous post it was noted that Steam site data definitely favors Nvidia over AMD. Just info, FWIW.

This is a vague AMD Navi 7nm GPU "leak". Highly speculative -- so, little is copy/pasted here.

Rumored AMD Navi Radeon RX GPU “66AF:F1” Benchmarks Leak Out – Faster in Graphics Throughput, Slightly Behind in Compute Workloads

the first tests are pure graphics where the rumored AMD Navi GPU posts much higher results and performance numbers compared to the Radeon RX 580. This almost matches the AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 territory.

AMD Navi GPUs was tailormade for maximum graphics and gaming performance rather than compute horsepower.

The interesting part is that Navi emphasizes gaming FPS over compute (as do seemingly all Nvidia gaming GPUs). The first Navi are rumored to sell at an RX580/RX590 price of $300 or less ($250 was the original rumor) -- and give Vega class performance. This first unsupported benchmark seems to confirm earlier rumors.

Navi is expected in Summer or Fall -- but, AMD has not provided a date, yet.

Not sure where you're going with that. Are you you really trying to take a survey/poll from wccftech where the community are AMD blinkered fans with articles that stem from nothing more than rumours and clickbait as some sort of realistic comparison? Everyone knows that wccftech are not to be trusted (their links are banned from a lot of subredits too) and simply regurgitate all sorts of nonsense with more unsubstantiated claims than any other site. Also, how do you justify Steam being biased to Nvidia when the results are lifted from a hardware scan of the actual PC?

How one interprets the above to "me saying steam is biased" is hard for me to understand. In any case, my words were secondary to the data from the article which quoted "Jon Peddie Research’s quarterly Market Watch report" -- which has credibility. I would not call it "click bate".

In simple terms: JPR says Nvidia lead the market in Q4 according to the article. I added: Nvidia leads the market on Steam (which is long term data based on a hardware scan, as you say). wccftech Poll added: Nvidia lead readers of the article -- but by a smaller margin. Nothing special -- just info FWIW.

Apparently, you feel I am biased and, thus, interpret what I write as being biased (whether it is or not). Could you be biased? A rhetorical question. To each his/her own. No hard feelings on this side of the Atlantic smile

Nice thing about wccftech: They do need to write articles every day -- so they scan the internet for stuff. I have 3 sites I visit first thing every morning because their scans save me time. wccftech is one of them. I try to leave out their personal opinions and just quote the data ( or substantiated rumor, speculation, etc). There are also other sites I check along the way. Doing that is a fun thing I would do anyway -- irrespective of this SimHQ thread.

I am an AMD fan who tries to be unbiased on line. For the record: Intel and Nvidia make great products (as I have often said). My being an AMD fan is not a way to say their products are not good. This thread simply tries to give the AMD side of the story (good or bad).

Well, you quoted the following;

However, in a previous post it was noted that Steam site data definitely favors Nvidia over AMD

....so you are clearly indicating that Steam has some sort of bias to Nvidia.

My question is how the Steam site favours one brand over the other? Steam don't care, it makes no difference to them and the results of the hardware scans (albeit a random section of gamers) only report on the results.....but I guess if you're talking about developers or the community favouring a particular brand then there probably is in some cases. The Jon Peddie Research report obviously does have merit because it can be verified as a research resource for the industry and is backed up by their own site....what can't be verified is your follow-up statement about a poll on wccftech who have a majority community of AMD fans, and therefore it's clear any poll they undertake will have a much larger percentage of gamers with AMD cards hence why you get numbers that suggest discrete numbers close to a 50/50 split. and then state that this reflects readership values of informed gamers....no it doesn't - it simply reflects a large number of AMD biased gamers stating they are using AMD GPUs and doesn't reflect what informed gamers have in their systems at all. There are a myriad of other surveys that give a more realistic portrayal of what gamers are using in their system and we broadly know what these figures are.

There is no issue whatsoever in anyone favouring one company or another, but when favouritism clouds judgement then the information becomes worthless.

As for myself, the brand name means nothing......I care for performance and value for my money therefore bias has no place. I've bought AMD/Intel CPUs and AMD/Nvidia GPUs in the past and will continue to do so in the future depending on how their products fit my requirements at the time of purchase.

I wrote "Steam data favors". "Steam" is an adjective describing where the "data" is located. As used, ''data" is the noun which "favors" (verb).

In short: data is favoring Nvidia. Not: Steam is favoring Nvidia. Steam is merely a location of the data. Just the way we speak/write in my town on this side of the Atlantic.

Also, I see that use of the word "favors" has an emotional connotation for some. I could have written it differently to be less emotional sounding.

At NASA we would have teleconferences with NASA folks in other cities. A study was done. The use of language in the various USA cities was different enough that it occasionlly lead to misunderstandings like the one we're discussing. However, the people having the misunderstandings did not realize it. They merely interpreted what they heard based on how folks talked and used language in their city.

Seems like that's what happened here -- merely an honest difference in how the language is used in different cities. Actually, given a global readership, I am aware of possibly being misunderstood. But, I was not sensitive enough to it this time. Sorry.

No sorry, you're still talking bollocks. Where do you think the data comes from?....it doesn't just appear from thin air. There is a reason why it favours Nvidia. Not even a strong enough rose tint will sway general consensus to AMD until they pull their finger out and deliver some decent performing GPUs.....there is a genuine reason why Nvidia have a huge market share at the moment.

Exclusive: AMD’s 7nm Navi GPU Will Launch Roughly A Month After Ryzen 3000

if the company launches the 3000 series desktop processors at Computex like they are planning to, you should not expect the Navi GPU to land before early August.

Some rumors previously had suggested an October launch, but as of now, AMD is telling its partners to expect the launch exactly a month after the Ryzen 7nm launch.
