She flew in to JFK a few days ago direct from the paint shop in Dublin, Ireland. Just thought some of you 'old timers' might like a look at BA's throw back to the glamour days of air travel. This is one of our 747-400 painted to look like a 747-100 BOAC from around late 1960's early 70's.

Enjoy....

All credit to taking the photos go to my colleague, Mark Ferrel... because mine are too big to post on this forum (1 MB limit..wtf...).

Thanks James. Some airliners aren't too pretty but that one is quite sleak. The paint job is smart maybe they shoudl go that way for all of them.

I've always liked the design of the 747. It is an impressive looking machine, both on the ground and in the air.

The old Jumbo Jet was, and still is, a great plane. I got to fly first class in one once back in the mid-1970s when I was coming back from England for a two-week leave while in the USAF. I was flying military stand-by and they put me on a TWA 747-100 from London to Chicago, in first class! What a treat, and that first class lounge was very nice. Plus, because I was flying in uniform, they wouldn't let me pay for a single drink the whole way across. Good times, good times.

To say the least, her profile represented the lap of luxury and the "Jet Set" attitude of the people she carried. Thankfully, Boeing stuck with the design and offered the public the 747-800 better known as the '800', so we'll still see the hull around for another 25 years. LOL!

If it ain't a Boeing... I'm not going!

On a side note.. BA offered the next retro-design paintjob, soon to be painted on G-BNLY... the trusty old Landor 'To Fly, To Serve' livery I originally came to love when I was hired 25 years ago. Won't be long before we see her in the skies. smile
