Which characters have you come across that are the best, most memorable?
I can think of dozens, but I will go for these two
-- Handsome Jack (Borderlands 2) Wonderfully written. Funny. The way he taunts you, how much you annoy him. The dialog. The hubris! Great character.
"So, how’s your day been, buddy? We haven’t really talked much since I left you for dead. Hey, you think you’ll freeze to death out there? Nah, probably not. The bandits’ll get you first. My day? It's been pretty good. I just bought a pony made of diamonds, because I’m rich. So, you know. That’s cool. Kay, bye"
-- Vaas Montenegro (Far Cry 3). This dude is nuts. I found him utterly compelling though. Great lines, a psycho and a thinker, he is what he is and above it all at the same time.
" Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is? Insanity is doing the exact... same f*cking thing... over and over again expecting... sh!t to change... That. Is. Crazy. The first time somebody told me that, I dunno, I thought they were bullsh!tting me, so, boom...I shot him! The thing is... He was right. And then I started seeing, everywhere I looked, everywhere I looked all these f*cking pricks, everywhere I looked, doing the exact same f*cking thing... over and over and over and over again thinking, 'This time is gonna be different, no, no, no please... This time is gonna be different', I'm sorry, I don't like... The way ... you are looking at me... Okay, do you have a f*cking problem in your head, do you think I am bullshitting you, do you think I am lying? F*ck you! Okay? F*ck you!... It's okay, man. I'm gonna chill, hermano. I'm gonna chill... The thing is... Alright, the thing is I killed you once already... and it's not like I am f*cking crazy. It's okay... It's like water under the bridge. Did I ever tell you the definition... of insanity?
There are so many more that I could mention. But these two are certainly among the best for me. Excellent voice acting too.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Those two are absolutely great picks DBond!
I have three I’d like of mention:
1. Mr. Torgue from the Borderlands series. This guy is like Ted Nugent on overdrive!
2. Alma, the creepy girl from F.E.A.R.
3. Geralt of Rivia - The Witcher series.

Geralt of Rivia -- Because he was so awesome and complex in Witcher 1. Dark and brooding, shades of ambiguity, not necessarily interested in only doing the right thing.
Minsc and Boo from Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 -- Come on, is there anyone who didn't like Minsc?
Conker from Conker's Bad Fur day -- Likely one of the catchiest voices and characters I've heard ever.
There's more, but those popped into my head the fastest this morning.

Duke Nuke 'em. Good one Blastman. That was one of my first shooters. I think it was the first game I played with working mirrors. Not sure why that sticks with me lol.
"Your ass is grass and I'm the weedwhacker!"
Not sure which game I played? Must have been DN'em 3D? 1996? There were others before that IIRC, and I'm not sure which one I played. Gettin' old, not recommended.

Max from Sam and Max
Boo and Minsc Go for the eyes Boo,Go for the eyes
Psycho Mantis MGS..the controller port and mem card reading on Ps1 was incredible
Nathan Drake Uncharted..great character,great games
Sephiroth FFVII the ultimate baddie
The brilliant Trevor Phillips GTA5... "I gotta go meditate. Or masturbate. Or both."

That female Air Traffic Controller at Brindisi airport welcoming me back when I just past midnight reach 30 miles out in my limping F-16 burning a black smoke trail.
Ohhh ok, you meant an actual character, my bad! I blame language, need to read more dictionaries..

Good ones, but Trevor not so much for me. Great game though.
I'll add
--Claptrap (Borderlands 2, again). So funny, so well written.
"This way to Southern Shelf, minion -- let's go! Maybe! ...Or, not! We’ll go at your pace! I’m obviously the head of this operation, of course, but you’re the Vault Hunter with the brawn. And the guns. And the power of sight. Which is exactly what you want out of a minion, really. That’s, like, three of the top four things one generally wants out of a minion. You’ll figure out the fourth when the time is right. The fourth is pizzazz."
-- Khelgar and Neeshka (Neverwinter Nights 2). Great banter between them. I still make Khelgar in any RPG that lets me create a party member.
Oden, the tower voice from Falcon qualifies on awesomeness alone

Speaking of Duke Nukem, that reminds me about the utter absurdity concerning the sequel. How many total years was that game in development? It was at least 10.
Then the game was finally released and no one cared. The game came and went quickly with little to no fanfare.

Tales from the Borderlands - Loved this Telltale Game! The dialogue is enough to make you laugh out loud all by yourself. Rhys is the main protaginist. He is a milquetoast kind of guy, not the hero type. But he is the only one that can see and talk to Handsome Jack's Ghost.
The running "Hey Eric" jokes from the bad guys... hahhah

Ser Lev Aris from Privateer 2: The Darkening, it was the first time I noticed Clive Owen and was quite impressed with his portrayal of the character Lev Aris from that I went looking for his films and so far have not been disappointed by his acting.

Sir Galahad - The Order: 1886 (Loved this guy!! A true gem of a game too and all of the voice actors did a masterful job in my opinion. An excellently crafted work.) The original Lara Croft from Tomb Raider Classics , woman "empowerment" without the stupid sexism or victimization that the new "lara" has in spades, she is a woman and she kill people and stuff. simple Solid Snake, the only snake for me from MGS series Cate Archer from No One Lives Forever Sonic because i'm a 90s kid the spy from GTA san Andreas (cracks me up) Jaqueline from mass effect 2, and jaevik from mass effect 3 ,the definition of Baddasses Cloud, actually i just like his looks, guy is either austistic or a wuss, problably both Jill Valentine From RE1, or at least i did when i was a kid havent played the remake and honestly dont remember her much, problably only liked the design like cloud above
HMMmm kinda hard to remember more as most of my gaming times was simming and playing fps where the character dont even have a name or backstory....
Oh my Warden from origins but he was basically me, so...does that count?

I came very late to the Witcher party, and Geralt is probably the most memorable character I've seen in entertainment media in total.
Never having even seen W1 or W2, Geralt's character was instantly conveyed to me in all it's humor, thoughtfulness, grit, and humanity, right off the bat, and it was an effortless introduction.
What kind of car is that? What does it matter? When I drive it, I'm Steve McQueen

The Perfect Fighter Pilot that is an antagonist, rather than the protaganist. It's also a really human-relatable story, rather than the typical cheeseness. I can still dream up every cutscene from Ace Combat 4.
