I need to buy a new mattress. Moving to a new apartment after a few months of helping out my grandmother.

I have been looking at latex mattresses. Are they decent?

I used to have a queen size Ikea memory foam mattress which was very comfortable, but it started to develop a soft spot in the center after about 7 years. Otherwise it was a pretty comfortable mattress. I really want to avoid the problem of another soft/saggy spot in the center.

I'm planning to use it on the floor or on a set of simple bed slats, as I hate the sag that starts to happen with many mattress supports, I really don't like that feeling of being rolled into the middle of my mattress.

So far two contenders, Ikea Mausund and the SleepOnLatex King size model.

Budget is probably going to be around 1000$, +-200

I can't speak more highly about my Tempur. Quite expensive depending where you are located though.

Personally I prefer to replace mattresses sooner than that - even with a regularly washed pad still think of all the sweat/dander/etc that's going to build up inside the thing...

Well, unless encased in plastic, but I hate that...

If you do not want a soft, sort of trench in the middle, then avoid "Stearns and Foster."

Supposedly a "premium" brand, but the general complaint from owners, including me, is the eventual "trench" that will develop in the middle.

And, try before you buy! Check out the latest mattress reviews and suggestions in whichever Consumer Reports issue has the most recent mattress information.

Check at your local library.

Youngest son got a custom built matrass/bed recently, as he is 6'5" he did need a long bed, I will ask him what the make is, I know it was not cheap but it wasn't that expensive either.

I went to the shop with him and they put you on a matrass that adjusts to your weight and sleep pattern and from that it works out what level of stiffness and where it is needed and also the slats on the base, what height and stiffness they need to be, from ordering to delivery it took about 2 weeks.
If I can find the brochure and test chart I will post them up, but I don't think I kept them.

The bed cost around €1100.

There's a silver lining to every spam attempt though and this thread being necro'd reminded me of the brilliantly funny "Mattresses" sketch by Monty Python.

Yup or one of those high society guys who spoke with a Mid-Atlantic accent which you can see in so many 1930's era films.

We love our Tempurpedic mattress. It's firm enough not to be a marshmellow, but yields to a body gently. Also, it comes up to body temperature quickly and stays there; I was initially concerned it would become a heat sink with a feedback loop, but it didn't.
