Man, that was stupid. nope EDIT: What that guy did, not your post or video. smile

++++++++++

I'm at a gym for 3 hours every Tuesday and Thursday mornings (Spectrum Fitness, Zachary, LA), mainly self-teaching (math and programming) or playing on their wi-fi (Android tablet). I take my mother who is doing heated pool therapy (back and arthritis) followed by senior workout/yoga-type classes. They keep tempting me to join and I'm probably going to soon, since I'm there already (2 months in and mom is sticking with it). Nice place, more seniors and/or physical therapy (what they specialize in) than typical gym rats.

However, if I do join the gym, I'm not going to stop working out at home with my wife 2 to 3 times a week, something I really enjoy. It's the heated indoor pool and all the exercise and yoga classes that makes it tempting.

<what I'm shooting for... pic of Greek athlete deleted so as not to be taken seriously>.

I've been watching other leg exercises gone wrong. That scares me. I guess it's easy to overdo the legs as the exercises are usually easier than upper body. Legs seem relatively stronger as well, even without long-term working out, so you're tempted to push them more.

I still have a nagging hamstring that may eventually put me in physical therapy. Not from doing too much weight on leg curls but using bad form, rather bad speed, I went way too slow.

And the worst one's all seem to come from Bresil . It's not uncommon amongst bodybuilders but not at that level

I can't watch it but I'm curious as to what happened. Did his legs get bent the wrong way or did his calves explode? There's too many things as it is that I wish I could un-see.

This is why I'm happy with my 'Mickey Mouse' home gym, it's all I really need (and no leg apparatus, dismantled from my bench).

To me it looked like his shins bent backwards, breaking just below where the swell for the knee joint is.

He brought his knees down, but his feet stayed planted on the weight plate and it carried on down, folding his legs in places they should not fold.
Maybe other injuries too, but that was what it looked like to me...

Vienna, 2nd rock left.
That made me cringe. But then, the way he even pushed down on his knees with his hands... you shouldn't advance to that much weight without learning proper form...

I can't see *any* reason to push that much weight. I've no idea how much he had on there, but it looked like "all of it".

I didn't remember just how crazy Popeye's physique was! biggrin

About physiques, I'm not shooting for the moon. I'd be happy to have Sean Connery's 007 build or even the lankier Leonard Nimoy's Mr. Spock, when the Nazi knockoffs interrogate him with a whip to the back. That's my older brother's build (my same 5'-9" [175 cm] but only 150 lbs. [68 kg]) and he works out just enough to keep it. My frame is a little bigger (wrist circumference) so I'll keep working for the Connery James Bond physique, defined and hairy but not too muscular. smile

Unless you're doing constant physical activity (construction/moving/landscaping vs. a desk job), you *have* to workout at 40+ if you want to keep what muscle you have (which also affects your metabolism and T).

I'm currently watching a transformation with my 79 year-old mother who is now 'hitting the gym'. Despite severe back issues (major surgeries and wears a TENS), along with bad knees and ankles, she's moving quicker now and getting some strength back. I saw the same transformation with my obese late-60's busted-hip mother-in-law when she came to live with us permanently. She lost 30 - 40 lbs. over several months without even trying, just by eating what we were eating and walking the park with us every evening for an hour. It wasn't even the weight loss that was so impressive, it was her raised energy levels and her ability to walk the park with a spring in her step.

I took notice at the gym today... 90% seniors (some look to be in their 80's), many faces I see every Tuesday and Thursday. It looks like the pool scene in Cocoon when the class lets out, most of them have got that spring. smile

You should for conditioning and toning. No matter what the news say, the dad bod, the "Kirk", is a few years away from being the mohawk and belly piercings.
