Hello Mr. Bush,

I am a member of the USAF Museum Foundation and receive a quaterly magazine from them. Anyway, in this quarters issue they are asking for anyone who has "party suits". I could never figure out what the heck a party suit was, and why the USAFM would want one.

I think I saw one the other day, it was a green vest with unit patches sewn on it. My question is, did your fighter squadron ever have a party suit to wear? Did you ever see any other squadrons wearing them?

Or

Have you ever heard of a Party Suit, cause I sure as hell didn't?

Thanks in advance sir.

Hi Lucky

Sure, I've heard of party suits! They were standard wear at informal outings in Vietnam. For example, here's your humble correspondent in slimmer days:

We had these things made off-base by the local 'tailors'. A party suit was a custom fitted semi-copy of a flight suit...usually made out of polyester. We would have our names embroidered on it along with the unit patch/logo. Then we would customize the suit with other sewn on patches such as 'Yankee Air Pirate', 'River Rat', or 'F*** Jane Fonda'.

I was in a F-4 night squadron, so our suit was black.

Wow! Cool Picture.

Thanks for the info. Now I finally know what they were all about.

Thanks
