Was there in 1998, and back again last summer. God, how I loved NYC back then. It was a metropolis without the excessive gentrification/wealth it is nowadays.
How do people living there feel about NYC nowadays, compared to the Dinkins/Giuliani era?
Such a better time. I love watching 80s movies where nobody has an annoying digital ball and chain, and they seem happier for it. So many conversations and lively interactions--zombies there are not.

NYC is one of those places that I absolutely love to visit but I would never live there for a bunch of different reasons.

I remember it all now. People used to walk down busy sidewalks with their heads up and their eyes looking forward. It's all coming back to me now, like a dream.....
I was working in Philadelphia in those days. Spent some great weekends in New York. That video (and maybe the music too), made me feel real nostalgic. Thanks for sharing !
