they have always been fantastic businesses, but as far as stocks go they may not always make good investments. the industry leaders for both of those products are extremely well established and old, so their stock prices tend to be very stable. if you are looking at extremely long term growth, they may be a good idea, but if you are looking for 5 year results i don't think you're going to see huge increases.

i would suggest that coffee is a better investment.

Dollar Shave Club is 1/3 of the price, and better quality.

Imma buy some Philips, because I love my Norelco razors, and sell some PG to pay for the shares. =)

I buy Feather blades for my Merkur double-edge razor. They are superior to all others when it comes to sharpness.

So does this mean that hipster beards are now politically incorrect? How ironic if that is the case.

I'm with Semmern as far as DE razors are concerned. I have a Merkur 34C, a Merkur Futur, an Edwin Jagger DE89, and a Viking's Blade Chieftain. I have several good blades including Feather, Personna, Astra, and Gillette 7 O'Clock. I originally stopped using those multi-blade cartridges because whiskers had a tendency to get clogged up in them and required tapping the razor on the sink all the time. I know that if I shaved every day, my whiskers would be too short to clog the blades, but I like to let it grow out because I'm lazy. Anyway, as a result, I discovered that it was those multi-blade razors that were causing me to have ingrown hairs on my face. The commercials for the multi-blade cartridges often have an animation that shows the first blade pulling the whisker, the next blade cutting it and then the whicker pops under the skin - turns out that's what caused my ingrown hairs. Since using double-edged razors I have not had a single ingrown hair. I'm thinking of getting a good Dovo straight razor next but I'm hesitating because it means maintaining the blade and getting at least two honing stones and a flattening stone. Anyway, sorry for the mini-dissertation, but shaving has become a hobby for me.

I'm using a Merkur as well, and love those Astra Platinums smile They're my favorite, but i'm currently finishing up a pack of Derby Stainless (NEVER again, my skin looks like I have a disease it is so irritated).

I wouldn't buy a straight razor though if I were you. You'll easily quadruple the amount of time it takes to shave yourself, and the maintenance is massive.

I also got ingrown hairs from multi-blade razors. Problem solved with the double-edged one.

I didn't know we had so many shaving connoisseurs here on SimHQ. wink

For me, I keep it simple.

I have no idea what the original reference is in this thread.

However, I will chime in that for a good decade now I've been into wet shaving and greatly enjoy it. I've collected a mix of different products, a few different brushes, mugs, and the rest. Back in November I added a few more, and am trying some Proraso tube cream and balm. A comfortable, enjoyable shave.

using a plastic safety razor mum got me 6 years ago, still on the pack of 100 blades I got from amazon and the 2nd puck of gillete soap with a 50p glass bowl and a cheap shaving brush...and I shave every other day. I think I've spent about 20 quid total.

I refuse to pay the frankly ludicrous prices for "modern" razors...

Doesn't get close enough for military standards, but it's very good.

I just don't know why they didn't make stronger blades, they could have made them last a lot longer than every 3 months.
