French Helicopter pilot shows off insane mad skilz on putting the H/C into a snow slope INCHES from the blades to rescue an injured skier. I would have to have a 2nd pair of shorts to ride with this person. HAHHA
We have/had a chopper driver of this guys class here for years.
His handle is Copterdrvr. Last Seen November 18, 2017 14:06.
Last time I talked to him it was about ROF.
Great guy and no doubt an incredible helo pilot.
You don't fly AH-6's unless you are the cream of the crop.
Not knocking the guy in the video, but we have had guys for decades doing that stuff while getting shot at.

The military and rescue services, around the world, are probably full of guys like that. Just flying a helo well is an amazing skill. It still takes balls to get to that point and more balls to keep on doing it.
It's good skill he's displaying, not sure it's clever though. IMHO more risk than necessary to judge the blade distance.
This could have been alternately done with a static line, or by moving the guy a few hundred meters downwards where the land seems flatter.
And yes ,the Emergency Services guys in most western countries are usually that good. A career in the Austrian Helicopter Rescue services usually starts at around 4000 hours logged, mostly former Military Pilots who recieved special mountain training. They'll open a beer bottle for you with their skids.
It's not balls of steel, it's great skills and confidence in using these to do the job. He most probably knew the exact slope of this area and had trained on this slope with an instructor earlier.
Balls of steel are, imo, when you need to trust someone else to not kill you while you do something really dangerous.
The example below is the perfect example of how balls of steel and stupidity are sometimes pretty close.

The helo pilot is the one of the so called PGHM , High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon: These are no "gamblers" and you can be 100% sure that if he would never have taken "unnecessy risks".
