I've got the A-10C and the F-18 modules. Is the Viggen or the Av-8B really worth purchasing, and if so which one is the SimHQ consensus? I know this is largely a matter of personal preference. But in my current inventory I already have a groundpounder and a multipurpose fighter; I'm looking for something that holds interest without a massive learning curve. TIA.

Try something a bit different? The Shark is one of the more polished modules!

I have both the Viggen and Av-8B, I can't speak for the Viggen as TBH I purchased it and have not spent a single second in it. My interest in DCS died off well over 2 years ago in which I stepped away and really only came back to bash VEAO when something interesting was taking place.

In recent weeks, I downloaded DCS again, purchased Persian Gulf and the harrier during the sale and spent most of my flying time in that aircraft, Although it is not feature complete, it is an enjoyable aircraft to fl. Read though the manual 1st and decide for yourself if you wish to purchase it
or not as the features no yet complete is in handbook available here
Somehow I don't think that manual has been updated as it states "only simple radio is available in early access" which quite clearly is not the case when doing the refueling training mission.

I have heard many good things about the Viggen, I heard it was practically feature complete on release but the updates since then and over the last 12 months have been slow. Mainly because of time being spent on the F-14.
Don't take my word for it, that is just from what I heard on youtube reviews and scrolling through posts on the Viggen on the other side of the hill at ED.

Harrier is an aircraft i'd re-buy again if ever required.

I've been eyeing the Viggen myself, but after reading everything on the ED Forums about it I got cold feet. When questioned about the shortcomings of the module, Heatblurs silence is deafening. They promised to do a status update shortly after new years eve, but I doubt we'll see one before the winter sale ends, and after the MiG-21 debacle i really wouldn't give any money to these guys until it is guaranteed that the module will be finished (which is doubtful, when you read everything on the ED Forums about it)

I owned the AV-8, but refunded it within the 2 hour period.
RAZBAM doesn't do full simulations, but more FC3 aircraft with clickable cockpits. This can be a pro or a con depending how you look at it. Also, where the Viggen just needs a lot of finishing touches, the AV-8 is surrounded by scaffolding for AT LEAST the next 6 months. The weapons and systems are pretty much the same as the A-10 and the F-18, so it has a smaller learning curve.

On the other hand, the Viggen is very different and unique, with plenty of cool toys.

Thanks fellas, these observations are sobering but helpful.

PS: I've had Black Shark since its release years ago (version 1 and then 2), but I had a much weaker rig then, and the video glitching put me off it. I may give it another try.

Way over in Perth, Western Aus...
My recommendations:

1. FC3, A-10C, KA-50 in any order...

2. AV-8B NA

3. Mi-8 or UH-1? - I have the Mi-8 but only used it a couple of times due to not having enough time. I don't have the UH-1 but have seen other players have lots of fun in it.
