Hello,

My System is Win7 sp1

This maybe a bug or not and also known of though ......

After clicking any of the "Quick fly scenario or Campaign buttons" and selections then the screen shows all the loading stuff, it takes 4 minutes plus to actually get into the cockpit.
Is this normal?

I have found that after doing this normal start and clicking on a "Quick fly button" then doing the Ctrl, Alt, Delete -> "Start Task Manager" -> "cfs3.exe"->"End Process"
Then start WOTR again and go through all the selecting which this time after a few seconds will bring up the "Taskbar" at the bottom of the screen and the "RAF Wings Loading " pic
and within a minute I'll be in the cockpit flying.

It seems as though the loading is unnecessarily bogging down somewhere during startup each time a mission is selected and started.
I can repeat this process consistently.

Thanks

Is WOTR on a SSD or HHD ????

It makes a BIG difference in loading time.

CPU = i9 11900K
GPU = RTX 3080 Ti
Monitor = ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX 2160p G-sync

That sounds slow, Anti Virus? Maybe disable it from scanning WOTR folders and files.
It may be slightly slower on first mission 4 minutes sounds very slow.

From "loading runtime" to sitting on the field on my PC here is arond 30 second - it is on SSD though.

Thanks Chaps,

I have WOTR installed on a SSD Drive.
No Antivirus is running. I even uninstalled it to test if it interfered.
I have disabled all sorts of things to get it to work better, nothing works so far.

It is when the "Runtime Loading" appears that slow down happens
(mouse hourglass shows)
Previous to this all appears to function fluently.

Specs are:
i5 6500
RX 570 Graphics
8GB mem
Integrated sound (realtek)

Very odd Kollie. Something else must be wrong, are you overclocking?
All your chipset drivers up to date?
Does your hard drive scan clean?
Old Video drivers?

No Anti virus - I assume the machine has not been connected to the internet?

No overclocking on anything.
As of a week ago drivers are up to date.
Did a drive scan and comes up clean.
I do have antivirus and have connected to internet
with this machine though as mentioned have uninstalled to test
to see if it interfered but no change.
I have even started WOTR without the joystick connected, but no change
on startup there either.
I have to select compatibility to either Vista or (oddly enough) win 7
or else I get an error at the end of "loading Runtime" which lets me
back to the menu screen.

Is there any part of the code that tries to look if multiplayer is active
and wants to check for connection even when the network is stopped?

It would be good if anyone else mentions if they get anything similar or
they don't , so it can be seen if I'm the only one or a minority with this.

Win 7 64bit user here Kollie. Also i dont own a SSD just a regular HDD,your loading times certainly arnt normal pal..No compatability needed for me to set so thats a strange one
Ive just tested for you on my rig..The top Quick fly scenario (BoB Phase 1 Convoy Battles Defend our Bombers as they Attack the British Ships!) from me clicking on "GO TO FIELD" took 1 min.43 secs to get into my cockpit.

Interestingly my campaign flight from Go to Field only took 1 min 18 secs to get into the cockpit.

All this is whilst i have Kaspersky running and trackir, along with "essential" windows stuff. I do have 16GB of mem dont know if this makes a difference?
Also you have followed the installation procedure in the FAQ pal..have you tried installing the Vcredist_86_2010_sp1.exe from your WOTR toolbox \C++ runtimes folder Kollie? might help and apoligies if you,ve tried that.

Thanks Adger,

Already had DX9 and MVC++ 2010 installed but did them again previously.
I may reinstall on a different HDD if I get no joy soon.

When I do get to Loading Runtime the light for the drive slowly ticks over
so it seems to be thinking about stuff, just takes a long round about way to get there.

Check if the drive needs a defrag.

Also maybe DX9 is trying to contact the internet sometimes it will want to try to check some games for upated information to add into Windows game info.

My latest development....

I have disabled "Intel Management Engine Interface" in BIOS.

Uninstalled AND Disabled "PCI Simple Communications Controller" in Device Manager. (I suspect this was the main culprit)

Uninstalled Gigabyte "Platform Power Management" and Gigabyte "Auto Green" (these probably not suspect but extra junk none the less)
from "Add/Remove" programs. These were the only "Motherboard Apps" I had installed.

I now get about 1 minute 25 - 30 secs from "Go to Field" to "In Cockpit"
Much better than before.

Still Looking......

Nah, posted to soon.
This may work for quick missions but alas not for campaign.

If I task manager out of the game and start again ,I get in much quicker
than waiting for everything to load.

Maybe test your RAM, try booting with each individual DIMM if you have more than one. Could be one of them is faulty. I'd also look at your anti-virus if you use it.

If you have SSD and it's slow then the SSD may be because you did not "overprovision" it, it could be running slower once it's been used some time.

https://www.seagate.com/gb/en/tech-insights/ssd-over-provisioning-benefits-master-ti/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q15wN8JC2L4 at 3.15 mentions the drive slowing down more without it.

Thanks Polovski,
I read that and learnt something.

I have Uninstalled WOTR from my SSD Drive and Reinstalled it onto the HDD and applied Patch 1.7.
At the moment it seems I am able to enter into the cockpit from "Loading Runtime" in either Campain or Quick missions in less than 30 secs. (Remember this drive now is a HDD)

The Proceedure I must go through is :
Start a Mission in any senerio then once the "loading runtime" comes up -> Ctrl -> Alt -> Delete, "Task manager" out by "End Process" of "cfs3.exe" and then Yes/ok to all.
I am now back at Desktop.
Restart WOTR and all is ready to go.
What I have noticed is that "Rundll32" is constantly using 25% of my Cpu In Task Manager after I have ended the process of WOTR the first time and this seems to let it load much faster untill "Rundll32" is shut down.

I do not know if this is a problem with my system though it seems to run fine in all things generally or its a system setup thing or other.

Ok cool no idea on the Rundll32 thing, may need ultimately Windows re-install.

Maybe also scan with an online Anti-Virus different to the one you have.

"Windows re-install."

Yes, that may be true but I don't believe that will solve the issue.
I will reinstall Win 7 soon as a cost of over $40 for this WOTR download
was a little steep but I was/am hoping for something good.

Having said that, I haven't given up, just a bit disappointed at present.

I will get back if I can sort this out.

There's a fair few others reporting Rundll32 issues with Windows itself (nothing to do with WOFF or WOTR) maybe check these and use process explorer to see what's going on
for example
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...age/71cd4101-4a3c-48e7-b43a-4646a4be42ac

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZeXTlUcUbk

Also try setting cfs3.exe to run as administrator. in compatibillity settings
if that doesnt work try wotr.exe same (may then need to remvoe cfs3.exe compat setting if still a problem).

I finally managed to do a Reinstall. Hmmmmm.... 3 years worth of junk to wade through didn't help anything to do with everything.

I can now sit in the Cockpit 40 secs after clicking on the Go To button for Quick Mission first run and 30 - 33 secs there after. (is installed on a SSD Drive)
That is a big prob solved for me.

I also have just purchased a TrackIR, ..... a bit dis-orientating at the moment but, I think I like it.

I found that TrackIR was the greatest thing I ever did to improve my situational awareness in combat situations. Try to not become focused on your targets too long and frequently Check Six!
