The first part of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica miniseries aired on the SciFi Channel.

Oh my how time flies.

Do I need to hand in my man card if I admit I've never seen even one episode?

No but I highly recommend that you at least give the miniseries a shot. I'm fairly confident you will enjoy it.

Man card? No, but you do have to turn in your sci-fi fan card!

It seemed to have been a bit of a love it or hate it thing. Personally, I didn't like the old Galactica much, but loved the new series (even if the ending was so-so). I'd call it one of the best science fiction shows ever made. It is, of course, still a matter of taste and personal preference.

Comparing the original BSG with the reimagined series is like comparing the Adam West Batman 60's tv show with the Chris Nolan Batman movies from a few years ago. smile

Well, sure, they were entirely different in concept.
But I was never much of a fan of the super-sterile world of Star Trek; BSG of course is anything but. Also, the original Galactica series was IMO obviously aimed at a kids audience, the new one definitely not. Also, one little detail that I liked was to emphasize that this was a struggle of survival for the human race by displaying the head count of the fleet at the beginning of each episode (and occasionally in the president's office as the government's most important metric), so you could see how many lives were lost in the previous episode (needless to say, the numbers were usually going down substantially).

Plus, hot Cylon babes.

If you like science fiction and especially dark and intelligent science fiction then you are really missing out if you've never seen the new BSG.

I will be showing my ignorance here, because as I said I've never seen an episode. Are the Cylons now in human form? I hate that,I like to know who my enemy is.

SOME of the Cylon models are in human form but there are other models that are robotic. The Centurion is also in the new show.

I've been watching through the BSG reboot for the first time over the past several months, and have about ten episodes to go. There I paused and began another series for a short break. I've loved the show so far, and really love the gritty "military" feel. The political correctness has been kept to a minimum, and the show truly feels like watching something oldschool where content, plot and story matters more than modern issues. My one issue, though, is later in the series the show begins to drag things out for the sake of doing so, especially the second half of season 3, but I can overlook that because the quality is so high for the rest of the show. There have been some plot decisions I haven't been very keen on but for the most part the writers have done a pretty good job of writing themselves out of a corner, and with the whole cylons looking like humans vs humans thing and where they take the plot has well... been quite interesting.

Great show. All science fiction buffs should see it, and I wish there were more like this.

I don't know what you've seen recently but there are still quite a lot of really good scifi shows being made. They're just on streaming services though and not on broadcast tv.

Best TV show I've ever watched. GOT a very close second...even got my wife into BSG even though she never really "likes" SciFi. Got her to watch one episode that was it, she was hooked too.

Not for everyone, such is life.

Any you'd recommend? The Expanse is my favorite recent sci-fi series, but I'm open to more.

I also got my wife hooked on BSG. She didn't care for Westworld though. Ah well, you can't win them all!

Binge watched BSG harder than any other TV show! Wasn't sure if the wife would get into it at first, but she was always the first to say "One more episode!".

West World never really grabbed either of us, but we'll probably still watch the second season.

Be prepared. Season 2 is even more enigmatic than season 1. smile
