As Albert Mayes in the Centernary DiD challenge, I had an alarming amount of No Witnesses confirmed (on realistic settings), in the mud and even in enemy lines! I wonder if the game 'files reports' for other pilots that 'saw' your victories....
I spent four years recording all the aerial victories for a '100 Years Ago Today' thread. You would be surprised at the amount of victories that were awarded on the say-so of the pilot alone. From von Richthofen, Fonck and McCudden on down, pilots were credited for enemy planes that actually turned around and made it home safely, some of them with no damage at all. The Germans are sometimes commended for their "much stricter" validation methods, yet even they had an amazing number of uncredited "kills".
