I can’t think of many more fitting pictures perfectly illustrating the Greatest Generation.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

Google has its logo in grey font today. Never seen them do that before.

my brother got to meet him when he was VP and again as our President when he would go down to the Fla Key's to fish. He said he's and ultimate gentlemen and even took the time to write my brother later one when someone told the President that he was in a bad accident.

Ninety-five year old Senator Bob Dole, US Army WWII combat veteran who was gravely wounded in action, rises from his wheelchair to give President George HW Bush a final salute. This was the most touching tribute to the man, until GWB eulogized him at the National Cathedral. It still saddens me that Americans preferred the man who won re-election over the two men in the picture.

So unless I'm forgetting someone, there were three Presidents who saw combat in WWII while serving in the USN.
George HW Bush JFK Gerald Ford Ford was still at the naval Academy when the war ended but did serve in the 'peace time' navy. That is one emotional photo F4U.
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

George HW Bush JFK Gerald Ford Ford Carter was still at the naval Academy when the war ended but did serve in the 'peace time' navy. Fixed that. Ford served 2+ years at sea in WWII.

Thanks for the correction.
