I don't think anyone visits the console forums much and there's not active topics so I figured I'd run into more people who might game with both PC and Consoles here.

I need a better quality, larger capacity flash drive for copying PS4 screen captures and videos. Right now its slow with the generic ones I use. I did see a video where someone improved the copying speed of videos by formating the flash drive differently but I also would like to get one of these many GB capacity, USB 3.0 drives. However my concern is to whether or not the drive will fit into the confines of the PS4 usb port.(I have a 2014 PS4 original model)

My question is for example on this particular thumb drive, how does it actually connect. I watched a video of a guy plugging it into his pc for a review and I see no male end to this flash drive. How is it being inserted into a usb port? It may seem like a silly question and its making me feel dumb but I don't get it. Unless the drive itself is the dimensions of what the standard male part is on all flash drives and so it just inserts but its throwing me off.

Does anyone have a recommendation of a high capacity thumb drive that they like that would work?

I have a very similar one....like you say the end of the usb device fits snugly into the usb port itself. (see image below).

Any USB 3.0 device from a decent brand will offer the specified transfer speeds, just don't buy tat of ebay that originates from China......if something looks too good to be true, it generally is. The USB 3.0 device I have in the image (Kingston) is pretty much identical to the one in your link however this one only has a 16GB capacity but there are many brands out there that will do the trick nicely and go all the way up to TB's in size.

If it's worth bearing in mind at all, the reason I went for this particular model is that you can hang it on a key chain/lanyard without fear of losing it. So many USB sticks these days have flimsy plastic loops on them which are always destined to snap over time.....models like this with aluminium bodies and the loop built into the device are pretty much bomb proof.

I'm just not understanding how that fits into a usb port without an apparent male end.

Also, I'm amazed how how much data these thumb drives can store. I had no idea that could hold that many GB or if a TB like you said. I want to go the flash drive route because I heard that the PS4 software has to do its own special format of an external hard drive so it can't apparently be used at the same time as a PS4 and PC device because of the special console formatting. That being said, does an external hard drive have to be formatted to work on the PS4 if all you want to do is use it as a means to copy and paste PS4 pictures and video to the drive and then immediately connect it to a PC and dump them?

I think you're just getting a bit confused by the 'look' of the physical port...although it looks to be a female in that you insert a 'male' usb connector into it, the only important component is the centre section with 4 x metal prongs on it separated by a plastic spacer. The 4 x metal prongs provide the +5v, negative, data + and data -. Whenever you inter-connect 2 x usb devices, the 2 centre sections (on a USB 3.0 device/port, it is coloured blue) meet and make the connection. .

What you are seeing as a 'male' section of a usb device or the surrounding rectangle of a usb port is really just the protection mechanism for the delicate connectors inside.
