I like Orla Fallon's rendition.

The Celtic Women do beautiful stuff. But I like the simplistic rendition since it is a lament. Sometimes music can be too orchestrated and complex.

totally agree, when you have kids everything changes emotionally. I can see my oldest (17) has been pushing away from the last year now.

It just hits you differently when you have kids.

edit: I still can't listen to it. Hits me hard every time.

This guy may or may not make we well up in a certain mood!

Brother is Arms is a good call though, I've loved it for a long time!

That Farrow bloke you executed today, are you sure he's dead?
Well I chopped his head off, that usually does the trick.
Yes, don't get clever with me Baldrick. I just thought you might have lopped off a leg or something by mistake.
No, the thing I chopped off had a nose.

The entire album (Automatic For The People) is just fantastic, IMO.

The rusty wire that holds the cork that keeps the anger in
Gives way and suddenly it’s day again
The sun is in the east
Even though the day is done
Two suns in the sunset, hmph
Could be the human race is run

A song with words:

Without words, just music.

This isn't on YT, but is on Sound Cloud, just click the link to hear it. It's House of the Rising Sun by Midnite String Quartet.

A couple of songs that always bring a smile to my face....
The Lucksmiths disbanded about 4 or 5 years ago (sad face!), but I was fortunate enough to see them in Seattle before they ended their career. After first hearing the group interviewed on NPR I was hooked on their catchy music accompanied by witty and fun lyrics for many of their works.

I dunno why when I watch this live in person, it always gets me. I guess it reminds me of hard relationships I had in my 20s when this song came out:
