I've only gone to a movie theater alone once - for Gravity 3D IMAX. I just couldn't wait. Did 2 more viewings of that with friends and family afterwards.

I've never seen a movie by myself in the theater, as I consider it a social activity. Without a parent? Hmm. Sometime in the 80s, probably Star Trek IV, which I saw two or three times in the theater. smile

Correct. No parents, no other relatives, no friends. Just you and a theater full of strangers.

You wouldn't recognize East Greenbush, today. Now it's more or less a suburb of Albany with housing and apartment developments being built everywhere
along with hi tech industry .

Conversely though, it has been a very long time since I last saw a movie by myself in the theater. I'm pretty sure that occurred in 1999 when I saw "Wing Commander".

Ugh.

When my family lived in Germany, I would regularly visit my German grandmother in Waldorf, Germany every weekend. There was a movie theater there that would show Godzilla and Kung Fu movies every Saturday. I would go there with some American friends that lived nearby. The theater was probably around since the 40s or 50s. The seats were all wood. Anyway, I remember coming out of the theater after a Bruce Lee movie and we would all be ready to play pretend-fight games as if we were kung-fu fighters. That was back in the late 70s. smile

Only remember going to one movie without an adult present when I was a kid and I had a friend with me. We were both under ten at the time and we saw "The Love Bug" when it was rereleased in the 1972 to 1974 time frame. Just like Siskel and Ebert, and this was long before they became famous, we snuck into the closed balcony to watch the movie.

When it comes to going to a movie by myself I was in my late thirties and the only one I can remember where I went alone was to watch "Die Another Day" in 2002 or 2003. Even with Halle Berry in it I absolutely thought the movie stank to high heaven. The tidal wave, parasail surfing scene was the absolute worst special effect I had ever seen in a Bond film. Had it not been for the fact I had been sitting in traffic for two hours going practically nowhere I wouldn't have done it then.

I think this was the same for me, I was 11. It was either that or "The Last Unicorn", or both, as I snuck in to them when the opportunity arrived.

I think the first movie I saw by myself in full was "Return of the Jedi" also when I was 11.

The first movie I saw alone as an adult was "The Professional" (Leon) because my friend kept canceling on me to see it so I was like, screw it, I'm going alone. I was 23.
