Still toying with getting this title, although I have read that the downloadable version limits you to 5 installs only. Is this still the case??.. I know that the CD version from the TrackIR group does not do that but I'm not sure if I can wait for it to arrive. Seeing that I already seem to have that StarForce s**t on my rig already, that really is not an issue for me.

Is it worth the bucks guys????

tks

Usually because it's cheaper and less hassle with having to have the CD in.
But yes, it is limited to 5 installs. If you do a search you should find quite a few threads just like this one.

I thought they upped it to more than 5, there is also however a registry backup tool on the lockon.ru web-site so you don't need to re-activate if it's just an OS install. I have both the download and CD version and prefer the CD version just to save any future possible problems activating but the drawback is you have to have the CD in the drive, which is'nt a big deal.

Less hassle in that respect, but its a pain in the A** waiting for the starforce to do its thing when you first start Lomac ... sometimes up to a minute.

I've gone for the CD version too, because of the activations issue and the pain I went through to get half-life 2 working!

NaturalPoint sell for $30, which I think is the same price as the download (?), plus shipping.

Cheers,
Keith

There's a registry backup tool on the lockon.ru web-site so you don't need to re-activate except for major hardware changes.

Nope, they moved it back to five for the 2nd release users. At least, I had 4 activations left after my first install.

They have also said in the past that anyone have issues with the number of activations only need to contact them for assistance.

But then would Starforce still be obliged to monitor the activation numbers or would they just set the activation limit to infinity?

I suspect if Starforce went out of business that would be the end - protected software would stop working when the activation limit is exceeded.
That is after all what they were paid to do by their customers (the publishers).

If ED goes - who knows?

I'm buying a CD version.....

Cheers,
keith
