Yeah, I know this is far from BRD products. But I try...

Anyhow,

Thanks to:

Sokol: for it's incessant help to the community
Mega Mozg: for giving to the community the MMJoy software, wich allow all of us to create our own projects
Baur (BRD): for the creation of (in my humble opinion) the best gimbal for joysticks

Hello, thanks for your post. I've also tried to replicate Baur gimbal design- but no luck. Does your gilbal centers without any issues ?
The problem with mine is that there is no clear center. I can feel centering spring only near the max position of the rudder.
Here is my rudder centering cam and off center issue:

and my cam dimensions :

I'd greatly appreciate any help, after 2 years of using it it would be nice to finish the device with clear and strong center position.
Best regards, Czarek.

Hi Czary!!

You make a good job!!

Don't worry, I think you will solve the centering problem.

Mine is working pretty well!!

I strongly believe that your trobble is that you use the cam system as a scissors (at least is what the result appearing to be in the picures), which, by my intuition, is not good.

Try to make they work as a valley. Look the pictures in this link:

Czary,

Nice craftsmanship. thumbsup

In your design CAM arms are too inclined, what created an pronounce "V" in the center position, so the follower bearing chock with opposite CAM arm, creating the defined center - tactile and perhaps audible.

For have an clear center - what is desired only for helicopter flights, because as penalty you have no more an absolute center, the circumference created by the two CAM arms need be slight big than follower bearing circumference.

Baur CAM profiles have models with "hard" center - but not hard like in your design, "soft" center, and "clear"center.

Greetings, thank you guys for you kind words. The rudder was cut on my friend's CNC machine some 2-3 years ago.
Now, following your advice I've designed new cam arms. This is the left side arm, green circles represents movement of the centering bearing- 15º to each side.
Thursday I'll cut a prototype out of some aluminum sheet, and if that works ok, I'll order lasercut version out of 3mm steel.
