Is there an oil or water radiator for the hurricane, I can't seem to find a control for it?

Thanks.

All I see is Cowl Flaps not sure if that would apply to opening / closing radiator on the Hurricane.

Oil coolers on British engines were automatic. Cooling gills were opened and closed by the temp of the oil.

The cowling flaps controlled the coolant temp. Just for your info, the engine was not 'Water' cooled. It used a 40:60 ethylene glycol mix rather like you have in your car unless its a VW Beetle. :-) So the correct usage is 'coolant' just to be pedantic. The Glycol was first made by the Prestone company in the US. Early Merlins had a 100% glycol coolant but of course that doesn't work very well so they watered it down a bit for efficiency. Water (H2O) is the most efficient coolant but it freezes at low temps and boils at high temps. Gylycol raises the freezing temp and the boiling temp. Just don't drink it as it turns to formaldehyde in the blood.

How do I know this? I did an RAF apprenticeship on aero engines back in the days when there were some piston engines still used in the military.

On the Hurricane the radiator (Large 'bathtub' under the centre fuselage) had a flap which was controlled by a lever with position indicator on the left of the pilots seat. The cowl flaps command is assigned to this function.

Thanks, I think I may have mistakenly got it mapped to a button and an axis so is not working right (or my quadrant is playing up). Thanks for clarifying that 'cowl flaps' is the command I need to fix.

Thanks, I kind of assumed this from other sims, but I just wanted to know for sure what 'command' I was looking for. Thanks again for the info.

Hmm, this is strange, it is just mapped to two seperate buttons but it doesn't open or close, any ideas, is there any setting to enable enine management like this or should it just work?

(I'll try mapping it to the keyboard as a control test)

Oh wait, the 100% I thought was open/closed is actually damage status? Is the only way to see if it opens from external view, does a lever move in the cockpit? It doesn't seem so, I assume 'cooler door' on the left is the one that should move?

OK, so on external view I see the radiator is opening and closing, nice; but I can't see any lever move in the cockpit.

The lever isn't animated unfortunately.

That's a shame, I also find the textual spaghetti on the right hand side of the screen to be distracting/obfuscating. I don't need to know how many rounds each of my .303's has. They'll stop going bang when they're out.

Shift+F6 turns off dials... and you can move the text too with mouse.

See latests FAQ it contains how to configure all that.
