I'm not having much luck in Windows 10, but it runs fine in Windows 7. This was with the ETO2015 theatre update that I am working on, with ETO Late planeset. My desktop is 1920x1080, but the DXwnd and eaw.ini resolution is set to 1280x960 The frame rate is excellent as you can see. For me this has a good advantage over the d3d windower in that EAW is running "hooked" so if I launch it via GameRanger, or from one of the filemanagers, it still runs in the window. Offline I am getting a much better framerate, and the target selection map works Jel

The best result I could get is with these settings The width and height are zero forcing the app to use the selection screen resolution of 1024x768, and the eaw.ini resolution for the game, which I set to 1280x1024 I am also hiding the desktop background. I have attempted to set wider screens, but either I get a "pic not found" error, or with some settings it worked, but with a much lower framerate. I will keep trying

Russ I see that your card is a Geforce 1050 nVidia cards do not support horizon fog, so most users run with a glidewrapper. If you are using a glidewrapper its settings need to be coordinated with DXWind. Make sure you are in d3D for the moment, and set your height and width in DXWnd to 0. This will force it to use the 1024x768 screens, and the resolution set in the "eaw.ini" file. Set your "eaw.ini" to 1280x960 for starters Once you are happy with it you can try a bigger resolution, and eventuallly bring the glidewrapper into play

Same thing screens look great but launch anything and I get kicked out..When running in glide I'm using nglide..and tried D3D still crashed but testing windower set at 1324 X 1124 in D3D the flight window stays in place at fills 3/4 of the screen but in glide it shrinks and goes to the upper left corner....At least it's useful to read the stick setup screens easily do my settinggs and restart with no windower..And in D3D my framerates are down around 15 and stutters,,Glide runs at 55-60 FPS

Some issues with EAW may relate to running background processes and their use of memory. Being from the Windows 98 era, EAW simply doesn't like such processes and it's adviced to play the game with a freshly rebooted computer and not do anything to prevvent activation of such processes. Just playing the game has always worked best. Don't browse around in between games, use graphical software or build in telephones, as anything you do not related to playing the game can destroy the game's cache and may result in a CTD at any possible point in the game.
People must also realise that they are in control of memory use by the game. Although it may be preferred to run the highest possible graphics it is not always working out depending on drivers, CPU, GPU or OS, especially not with very enhanced games. When experiencing problems, try switching down detail settings in your EAW.INI and try one lower setting. Then you can try increasing each one one level at the time to see if any one of them might be causing a problem.
There are alternative ways to control graphical behaviour but they're not as simple as turning down a detail setting. One option is to force the game to only use the lores graphics, the detail setting isn't always capable of switching into that mode when a graphics card doesn't allow it the way EAW wants to do it. It's a forced option for which EAWPRO has specific script files, but it can be done without such scripts too. It just rquires a bit of understanding on the various filetypes used within the game. An old trick was to copy or swap lores drawings for terrains and the same can be done with objects and their .TPC's.
The older players will know these things but it's not clear to a newer generation of EAW pilots, because this knowledge is slowly fading. Searching this forum may help you find discussions on the subject and there's nothing wrong with asking for help. EAW just can be a PITA sometimes and other times it just works right off the bat. One thing is certain, it hasn't become any easier since this game's introduction and principally I think the same problems from that era still exist but so do their solutions.

Unfortunately I cannot explain precisely I had decided to remove the current and then re-install earlier drivers for my AMD Radeon R7 200 series video card because I was getting the 7217 error in Win 10 for every version of EAW no matter which folder or drive. I suspected a driver problem. My first move was to go to "Programs and features" via the Control Panel. Two AMD programs had been installed but their titles did not give clear indication of what they did, and I cannot remember their names. However, I removed them. When I had done so I was surprised that there was no change in the screen. Had I removed a driver then I would have expected a default Win 10 driver to be in use, with a change of screen resolution So just to check I ran EAW again, expecting the 7217 error, but and this time it ran with no 7217. Then out of curiosity I re-ran DXWnd and it worked. Jel
