What were some of your favorite TV shows of the past century? Criteria is that it must have began airing prior to Jan 1, 2000 but can continue past that date.

A few of mine:

Magnum PI
M*A*S*H
Barney Miller
Space Above and Beyond
Simon & Simon
Anything Star Trek

Apart from few already mentioned above (MASH, ST:TNG, Space A&B, X-F) I really enjoyed:

Northern Exposure
Due South
MacGyver
Friends (I still laugh at most jokes even today)

I was way too young to appreciate MASH during its hey day. I was born in 72 so I was just 11 when it went off the air.

I wonder how well the show would hold up now for a modern viewer?

Well enough apparently as it's in syndication pretty much everywhere.

I think it holds up well for someone who lived in that era or someone who understand the politics of that era but I am not so sure when it comes to the casual viewer.

Actually, the century didn't end until December 31, 2000. You don't start counting at zero and we are a base 10 numeric system.
