Oh, Tom....so many Thunderbolt paint schemes, so little time.

And she flies like a . Ofc I can't imagine her knife fighting a 109 at low speed, but those veteran 190s and 202s got some bullets (what a nice firing platform). It seems that fully open cowl flaps perturb the aerodynamics a bit, I don't know if it's historically documented but it gives her personality.

Not liking the P-47 one bit as a dog fighter. Does not compete with the new 109 or any Axis fighter. Or is it just me? Comments? Really wanted it to be the fighter that I expected. BadBud Not quite sure what you were expecting. The P-47 was a big, heavy aircraft, and certainly wouldn't be at its best trying to turn fight with a Bf 109, except possibly at high altitude. Otherwise, boom and zoom.

It's heavy, fast, and packs a punch but sucks in a turn fight. You have to use boom and zoom maneuvers. Use altitude and convert it into speed for your attack, then use your speed and convert it back into altitude to attack again. Fighting in the Jug is about managing energy and using slashing attacks. Reportedly, when a certain fighter group switched from its beloved spitfire (IIRC) to the P-47, CO advertised its fantastic diving abilities. One of the top dogs flew it, climbed down after the flight, came to CO and said "it's good that she can dive, because she sure can't climb" I think she can handle a turn contest vs 190s, at least vs AI. Against a 109, she's in the same situation as the F4 was vs the Zeke, defensive tactics can delay the inevitable,no more, if the 109 jocks are any competent. Now she doesn't need a full fuel load most of the time, and keeps her efficiency at very high altitude too.
