Dude just rent an apartment. Texas is cheap. If your job offer even REMOTELY makes you question your ability to afford an apartment there then you'd better stay away.

Actually, if your job offer couldn't pay for my CALIFORNIA apartment you'd better reconsider...

Thanks, but I never suggested that money, or price may be an issue for me.

That's why I've just worked my butt off here in the Middle East, to make this all possible finally. Started to shoot out job applications today, and feeling optimistic.

Thanks again guys,

AJ.

And you can rest your case with a two week time out for making a blatant political post in Community Hall. You knew better, but just had to do it.

Quick update;

Was just granted my 90 day visa!

Pretty happy about this. Have applied for a number of IT jobs in Dallas, I've heard back from a few, but not too many. My gut feeling about this tells me I will get a better response when I'm actually there.

Found a nice place to rent, hoping that I can 'make it big in the U.S.A.

Depart Jordan on 9/7/2018, one week in Bali with family, and then here I come.

Couldn't be happier at the moment :-)

Andrew.

AJ

Thanks for that update FT. I really do hope it all works out for you!

And don't let the Texas drawl/accent scare you off!

Well, flight is booked and paid for now, prepare yourself America, I will be landing at DFW on 9/14/2018 at 16:05 hours (Unless Homeland Security take a dislike to me......LOL) One of the best days of my life!

Thanks to everybody for all the advice.

Born in NYC but I've lived in Florida since I was 4 with the exception of a couple of years in the mid 1990's when I lived in Texas.

Andrew, when you get here, be sure and stop at a Whatburger after you leave the airport. You will want to experience that. And get the Spicy Ketchup in the black container. biggrin

I really miss Whattaburger. It's miles ahead of other fast food burger places.

Indeed I shall Mr Grant. Not sure how I'll feel after a 14 hour flight though :-)

My middle son is off to Spain that week too on his motorbike, him and his mates go off and do this a lot, last year it was Thailand where a neighbour of ours has a motorbike rental shop over there.

All good Mr Grant, I would definitely like that, as for a motorbike, hmm, haven't fallen off of one of those for years.....lol

I will put out a generalized question, if anybody feels that they can answer this please.....it's regarding residency and work.

I qualified for a special visa, called an ESTA. That entitles me to stay in the United States for up to 90 days. Now, it is very clear that it is illegal for me to work (obviously) but I believe that it's OK for me to LOOK for work whilst I am there.

Also, my lovely lady has a friend who lives and works in Houston. She has a green card and all, and she told my better half that I could work *if* a potential employer can give me a 'work permit'. Can anybody shed any light on this for me please?

Thanks a million once again guys. Now to learn my 'Cowboy speak'........LOL

Andrew

Between the constant rain, heat, humidity and horrible drivers where I live, there's no way I would ever drive a motorcycle!

I sold my bike 3 years about 3 days ago largely because of the propensity of local road repair crews to scatter pea sized gravel across the road for even the smallest of repairs. I ended up skidding over into the oncoming lane (empty of traffic, thank God) after rounding a turn and hitting gravel one time too many and I gave it up.

Nearly lost a friend like that, came round a corner and a truck had spilled some of it's load of barley. He came off the bike and went through the crash barrier.

Police arrived on the scene and the coroner pronounced him dead and had him put into a body bag, that's when he came to and panicked to get out the bag. He spent the next few weeks in hospital and made a full recovery, the bike alas was a write off, it was a Yamaha RD 250 that I had rebuilt from a box of bits for him and he had ridden it for more than a year.
