For me I'd have to split it evenly with TrackIR, and my old Thrustmaster F-16 FLCS HOTAS. That thing really did change everything. I still own it somewhere but it's now replaced by my Cougar. TrackIR for the win, it opened up the immersion in Falcon 4.0 and I still have my original TiR baseball cap that I got with my first TrackIR I did the same, TrackIR and the F16 FLCS/TQS/RCS combination I also got the programmable MFDs around the same time, they are/were dos compatible / programable via rs232 and there was a hack to get them to work with windows. Love the TrackIR 5 pro and the Cougar but it is getting on a bit and the pots in it are worn out

I'm left handed so no HOTAS and pedals for me. My Thrustmaster joystick and twist rudder/throttle combo though has served me well for several years now. Have you seen this PM? http://www.dualsticks.com/ Then all you need is a right hand throttle

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck.” -Robert Heinlein

Oculus Rift. You guys that have never tried it... find a local friend and give it a go IL2/DCS/Elite Dangerous/Dirt Rally/Project Cars(2)/Assetto Corsa... you've gotta try it.

TrackIR too.
Tried the Oculus Rift with DCS at a mate's place. Loved the immersion, unparalleled effects and unbelievably smooth. You are in for real.
My problem is that I also enjoy the outside sim / room situational awareness, for lack of a better word! TrackIR gives me both, I don't feel "cut off" and I would know if a filthy fly drowns in my glass of milk.
Cheers, Slug

HOTAS from my early simming days, Saitek X36 if I remember well. TrackIR KG13 stick for my WW2 simming. All 3 were essential steps. Next is VR, but when ? I'm waiting for high resolution, invisible pixel, and the GPU that can run it at high frame rate.

Cheers, Slug Yes similar also felt it needed more work..........the new HTC Vive Pro I was reading about last month does up the resolution and has reduced cabling so it is going in the right direction. There are still some good things about TIR like the price and I also like the detachment from the screen. Also in my case my 2 main sims dont support VR so makes sense for me personally to hold off and use TIR on all.......but then again I didn't get TIR till Gen 3.

The reason I listed Track IR instead of Oculus Rift is because
1. Track IR takes no hit on performance and it doesn't require you to triple your computing power 2. Rift picture quality (resolution) is a downgrade from your monitor and it's *very* hard to maintain the required FPS 3. Takes a lot of money, effort and head scratching to get it working. I won't argue the relative merits of the two because I only have and have only used the latter. But I will say that "triple your computing power" is an overstatement as is it being very hard to maintain FPS. As for number 3 that hasn't been my experience with OR at all.

I dont know why there is even a discussion about this? If you are going to do Flight simulation, you need a joystick, thats a given, after that the best purchase I made for the hobby when i started was Rudder Pedals ... throttle control via a joystick or keyboard combination can be managed easily enough, twist joysticks for rudder too I suppose but, jeeze that's getting desperate. Once you choose to enjoy flightsim, choose a half decent stick, you can do everything you need from that single unit if you are on a budget, if it has twist grip for rudder then you are off to a flying start, but its a bad habit to get into ... throttle control can usually be managed via even a keyboard quite well in the short term ... but you really should consider decent rudder pedals (with toe brakes preferably) after the mandatory Joystick purchase. Rudder Pedals were the best simming aid I bought way back in the early days, everything else above that are nice luxury's, inc HOTAS, Track IR and VR, a good stick and rudder will give you good habits, a separate throttle is cheap too and can usually be managed from any stick but i really would avoid twist grip sticks for rudder like the plague. My setup, nothing really fancy compared to some on here, but I'm always upgrading it.

@ Carefree. Who cares about all the nice toys you have! What is the story behind the "Hot Chick" in the picture on the top shelf? Please do enlighten us??? OT I know, but sometimes one just has to know the story behind the picture!!! S!Blade<>< P.S. I could make a "crude" joke about the cat sitting on the desk, as I just noticed it in the picture, but I will refrain.

I am more interested in the source for the 'head' the rift is sitting on. I can't find one with enough weight to hold the rift without falling over.

I dont know why there is even a discussion about this?
I feel a stick is a requisite, not an aid. If that's OK with you that is. Sort of like my butt isn't an aid for sitting, it makes proper sitting possible. Personally I don't know why you asked a question when in context you made a statement. I guess it goes to show we don't think alike. And that my friend is the reason for discussion. Hope that clears up your befuddlement.

Heh, the lady in pic is Jo Guest, she is a former UK page 3 model I met at a Biker do, jokingly asked her if she would send me a signed picture, gave her my real address and a few weeks later it arrived with her topless, never expected that! She was a real nice down to earth Lady and quite the hottie https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jo_Guest Ok, IMHO, you win Carefree. That is the best simming aide every! Case Closed. Now would you PM me a close up of just the picture? S!Blade<><

The Rift holder is a glass head I got off Ebay a few years ago as a headphone holder, works well for the Rift headset too, searh on Ebay for glass head and you should find something, glass has the weight to keep it steady. Found what appears to be the exact same one on Amazon. Thanks.
