Hellshade: I have created it, but Robert has not packaged it up for distribution yet.
This mod will reduce the airfield trees from the current OBD settings of High - 100%, Medium - 50% and Low - 0% to a more FPS friendly High - 67%, Medium - 33% and Low - 0%.
This will give everybody 5 different Airfield tree options to suit their visual and FPS choices.

Only the trees change percentages.
Buildings, vehicles and troops have VERY LITTLE impact on your CPU/GPU load, it is all in the airfield trees that drag your FPS down when ever you get within range.

[quote=gaw1is it the trees , the buildings, the other stuff (dogs, carts, mechanics, etc) or all the above that cause fps drop....[/quote]
What if the dogs are really big, like St. Bernards instead of Fox Terriers? That's got to be good for a couple lost FPS...
Wait! This should be in the Barmy Officers thread.... Never mind. Just head to the bar....

It is definitely the trees on the airfields that are the major culprit and Ankor has stated so in the past. I believe he has been looking for a solution to this but it may be a ways off in the future.
The other culprit is areas where there are multiple airfields in close proximity such as Filescamp Farm and the Roucourt airfield area where many airfields are very closely located. These are but two examples.
Panama Red, BuckeyeBob and myself are cooperating on a solution which might alleviate some of the FPS drops. Something will be coming soon in the form of mods
Best Regards

LOL... Robert, color me surprised! Me thinks you missed the very large tounge in cheek... Panama Red got the gist...
I saw the humour, however, I wanted to add to the explanation for FPS hits. Yes, and you all are a Bar my lot. Would that RAF_LOUVERT were here to add to the Barmiiness...

Robert's got the Reduced Trees mod now, he just has to "package it up", and send to Sandbagger to post in the WOFF UE mods section.
