Who has it? What are your thoughts about it? What do you like or not like? How does it change what you're currently doing or enjoying in the game? Does it do anything to remedy the "500 miles wide but 1 inch deep" gameplay?
I'd love to get it but with more RL pressures and a backlog getting bigger and bigger, I'd probably wait for a sale.
The gameplay updates for mining and exploration aren't due until Beyond Chapter 4, in Q4 this year.
This patch does some fixes, adds two new ships, and new content for the Thargoid alien storyline. Chapter 2 is a lighter-weight compared to the Q1 and Q4 updates.
As for the Chapter 3 update... Frontier are kinda quiet on that. I actually have on idea what to expect in that one.

I’ve jumped back into the game, it can be relaxing to be a space trucker every now and again.
This new patch seems to have screwed up my autopilot though. When I set a multiple jump route, the next system in the route is locked upon landing in the new system, but is soon unlocked. It’s easy enough to go ahead and reselect the next system, but that’s not quite the point.
Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck.” -Robert Heinlein
I'm cleaning the guts off the windshield, console from my last try and thinking of making my return this weekend. Are there starting off tips I should be aware of? It's almost been a year since I played last. I've heard the universe is a lot more lethal since the last time I played.
If you're looking for an Elite-like, but with story, minus all the hours of staring at suns, and simply want reason for all the station to station credit accumulating hooplah, there's a game on Steam that's on sale for 7.50 that is pretty fun called 3030 Deathwar Redux - A Space Odyssey

The thing about this game is that the Dangerous stuff is all opt-in, unless you play in Open. Sure you can be interdicted by AI, but it's usually easy enough to evade and escape. I always refer to the game as Elite, since it really isn't Dangerous That's my opinion anyway.
What ships do you have, what ranks, how much cash. Knowing that and what you're looking to do can help to focus the advice you get instead of me saying go for a Cobra when you already have one.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
I had to check, it's been so long. I'm sitting at around 183 Mil. Asp, Cobra, the fast paper thin fighter, the eagle, the free starter ship, the imperial Cruiser, cutter? Not the really big imperial ship, but the middle one, I cant remember the name. I think that's it. I quit before the Engineering stuff started so being a virtual gear head I'll probably focus on that to start.
Glad I asked. I might have said, once you get the money, consider a Cobra. You're way beyond that stage. You don't need starter tips, you need a new ship! Well, you don't NEED one, but with gobs of cash might as well. Some new ones since you've played I imagine. And a Python. Everyone needs a Python.
It's the Imperial Clipper I think you're talking about.

That's it, the cutter is the big mutha, right? I remember I was shooting for a full outfit of a conda with that price point then work and second child took my life. thanks for the advice. so not much has changed.
In a general sense yes it's more or less the same. But there have been quite a few minor changes, such as the way mission rewards work, that may have happened since you last played.

Search and rescue gets a nice improvement with 3.1, now damaged Megaships have Escape Systems. These eject Escape Pods (I collected about 40 in my Keelback, between two Megaships in the same system), which I turned in at the S&R contact for about $1 million. Not bad. Plus there is some opportunity to use hatch breakers and collectors.

This game is pretty amazing actually. I am enjoying it more than I did Elite.
