I submitted a solution to the menu navigation CTD to the eech dev repo. Let me know if you have any problems or find any other cases that present in a similar way.

What was the node file that was being loaded, and you removed that function.

Edit: Have you tested all of the maps with this change, and the MFD maps displays?

Can test it only next week, but looks ok after quick check - psd files with colors was not used there anyway.

thanks a bunch Woozie if you fixed ctd in menu, it was terribly annoying when you tested something.

That's a good point. I'll go through all the maps and test them. I'll also test with the paper map setting. I'm supposing that seeing the campaign map (edit: and MFDs) will be sufficient testing for now.

update: I went through all the theaters and opened the first campaign (except cuba). Confirmed that I can see the campaign map and the TSD version of the map (multiple zoom levels) while in the cockpit. I can't seem to see the paper map. Is something else required besides setting "campaign_map_palette=2" in EECH.ini?

clarification: the node_file 2dmapcol.psd was probably defining a color palette that was at some point hardcoded into terrmap.c.

Could it have been used by the terrain editor that was being used at one point? It would be good to know why the file was there, and now it works without that function.

It's good you've fixed the bug, but I just wouldn't want at some point in the future, if someone is editing maps etc, that your change creates a problem. Is there a commit history for that function that might help?

I may have spoke too soon. I saw some problems after building with the omake.bat script (I was testing with dmake) and noticed I was getting the same crash. However, the trace pointed to a different part of the initialization code.

That said, what script/wmake options do you all use to test before committing or for a build to be released?

With regaurd to the removed code:

It looks like the .psd file's relationship to this load_contour_map_colours function dates back to the initial commit. As far as I can tell, arneh was the one who was improving the campaign map and added the hard-coded pallet data. The purpose of the load_contour_map_colours function is to ultimately point terrain_2d_current_contour_colours to valid color pallet data. As far as I can tell this still this is still happening. Presumably, if a new map was created, or if an old one was edited, it would still get some color assigned to the terrain height based on arneh's pallet.

In any case, I'll look through the forum and see if there are any clues regarding his changes in his post history after I track down the above mentioned crash.

dmake is for testing purpose with asserts notifications, cmake - is the original format for releases

I was going through the list of maps and campaign scenarios. Every time I select a different one, it crashed straight to desktop. There's no crash log generated, and the debug log doesn't have much helpful information. I've pasted the last few lines below, and the full log can be viewed at the link.

Could anyone else try this? I've tried it on 1.16.0 and 1.16.1 using the cohokum_test8.exe with the Hover mods. I also have Apache/Havoc installed, so I'm not sure if that's related.

Steps:

Select Map e.g. Peurto Rico
Select scenario e.g. "Nightmare" - the description and options are shown
Select different scenario e.g. "Peurto Rico" - CTD

I just remembered there was a fix for this submitted to the code repo recently. I'll build that and test it out.

Yes i have this problem. easy to replicate:When you choose campaign, or mission, start mission, and back to main menu,and choose another campaign, game ALWAYS ctd when yuu click mouse button on specific campaign.
Also doubleclick on campaign cause ctd.

You testing on 08 version, but newest is 09 btw.this error practically
it not allow testing.each exit to the menu is ctd. Extremely frustrating.I thought that woozie repaired it.

I think he thought he found the problem, but then when testing, found another issue.

The Debug log last entry is related to trees. Is that the same when it crashes for you?

You need to run the debug.exe and it generates a debug.log file

Just having a look in the code. It opens the tree data files for each map, so I'm wondering if it's not closing them properly. Might try a few things and see if I can work out what's going on.

Edit: it's not related to trees. It does all that part fine, it's whatever comes next that's the problem. Next line of Debug log should be "ENTITY SYSTEM STATISTICS"
