There's always a few things you can try to get rid of stutters.
Standard procedure if you update from a previous version is to go to the 'Saved Games/DCS' folder and delete the contents of the 'fxo' and 'metashaders2' folders. This forces the game to recompile the shaders. Second thing if you are having problems is to check if your graphics card drivers are up to date.
Finally, switching to full screen mode in the sim (press 'LALT+RETURN' while the sim is running) has a huge impact for me regarding consistency of framerate.

There are a few things that ED could do to get rid of stutters - you conveniently missed that option........and seeing that almost everyone has them regardless of hardware and configuration, it would be a very good place to start. Silly me, wanting to help the OP out. I'm sure his time is much better spent talking #%&*$# about ED and not spending 5 minutes to try the most common things that hinder performance in DCS that none of you have even thought of, instead immediately suggesting to spend money on additional hardware.

Several members have mentioned DCS config elements in various places and it is expected that everyone (including the OP) is capable of searching for optimal config settings rather than us just create duplicate posts and information that can be found with minimal effort.
That is what drives this forum? Excuse me, i didn't get that over all the posts lamenting EDs incompetence. I guess any argument can be bent to your favour if it just serves as an excuse to criticise me.

Thanks for the posts Sobek I was not aware of tip number 3, despite the expectation of being capable

Does that mean the in-game fullscreen option don't work? IDK really, for some it works, but many people report an improvement on stuttering when using the 'LALT+RETURN' key combination.

Paradaz, are you fooking serious? Thanks for the posts Sobek I was not aware of tip number 3, despite the expectation of being capable Absolutely serious.......and as you are a regular on the ED forums it's surprising you didn't know about that 'trick' if you have ever had to search for tips on minimising stuttering. If you've not had to search for tips on stuttering before then it's obviously not a problem you've ever had and therefore nothing to worry about. It's helped many people over the years and appears in many posts on the official boards where stuttering and video settings are mentioned. Ultimately, it's just another example of EDs incompetence......They haven't optimised the performance of DCS, yet will be aware of this helping with maintaining a frame rate. That means they either don't know what the cause of the issue is and can't fix it, or haven't bothered trying. For anyone that thinks I don't help, here is your best bet; Click me

I've never heard it did. Nor has it ever worked on my machine since v2.0 anyway. Well, it switches to borderless windowed mode, which is not the same thing as FS. After these years Alt-Entering is still required at least once during gameplay to switch to FS. I got used to it and it's no biggie for me, but I do wonder why ED never managed to fix it once for all. This peculiarity didn't exist in 1.5.xx era after all.

Did you even read the first post? Will your advice work for someone on a HDD? Or is it really better for him **in more ways than just DCS** to get an SSD? Besides, it's not us that has raised the requirements from 4-8GB RAM to 16GB RAM to cover up for poor coding. It's not us who is telling people to "evolve with the times" and get additional hardware. Or have you forgotten about this post?

Hello,
I suffers many stutters playing the free plane in Instant Action (free flight). I will buy the BS2 from Steam, so I can return it. But with the training missions and others things, 2 hours fly fast. So can you give me advice for the configuration and things I have to know to run DCS smoothly.
My PC:
Intel Core i5-4690k (I don't overclock for fear of PC degradation). EVGA GTX 1070 8GDDR5 G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL (8gb RAM DDR3) 1 TERA HHD NO SSD
Recommend an SSD first on the basis a of a few things 1. When you see how Windows loads faster than your iPhone you will kick yourself 2. Playing DCS (with) 32GB RAM windows by default seems to be using 11 to 16GB of the page file (on your HDD) - (yes I know you can change switch this off etc blah) 8G of VRAM on the 1070 should be good for now - have a look at what it uses. I am thinking 8G main RAM is starting to look low worth checking if your MoBo supports more for future.

Something weird there, I have 6% page file usage of available 2048MB. I don't think DCS would take that much unless you are with 8GB or less RAM. My max RAM usage lies around 12-14GB.

No ... It's not THAT bad lol - this is more truthful. I also have 8GB RAM cached with RAM cache, so that can be reduced from total amount of used memory. https://imgur.com/a/xsl4RcM

Firstly I am using the 2.5 Stable version so aware that memory management may have changed if you run Open Beta.
Think I have seen over 24GB main RAM usage in Multiplayer a while back but - if for example start up AWACs hunt F-5E mission it is using over 12GB of the physical RAM in the hanger. Page File Usage is today around 13GB - when it says usage that is "committed" the actual use is something I haven't bothered looking into.
I also for personal preference reasons use a 16GB static page file - dynamic system resizing of the page file on a HDD is another thing you may not want so when I say default that is probably misleading.
The game is on low settings because I haven't upgraded my card yet so VRAM is maxed and have never seen it use more than about 0.3GB of the available shared GPU memory.
Have solved stutters in the past with gfx drivers and profile settings but as far as the OP goes an SSD is a win regardles!
