Hi Guys, I need your input. Looking at all of the Helos in EECH, the center of gravity is higher than it should be on all of them.
The Cg on a real helicopter is generally located close to the centerline of the engines, about 1 meter below the rotor hub.
If I lower it to the real location that will make the Helos more vertically stable, but will also make it much harder to do barrel rolls and abrupt turns.
Mi-24's are really heavy and shouldn't be able to do a barrel roll, Apaches and BlackSharks can.

Do you want to keep the agility, or do you want it to behave more like the real thing? Your choice.

Reality for me too. Being able to barrel roll or loop in a Blackhawk never felt real.

While it might be limited at higher weights (and with typical cargoes/passenger loads), I understand the Blackhawk *has* been looped in Turkish service.

Even larger helicopters can be aerobatic (I know the Chinook, Sea King and H53 are known to have been looped and rolled), as well as the more obvious Lynx, Bo105 and other attack helicopters.

Sounds unanimous. I've started some testing so we'll see where it leads.

One thing I've always noticed in the havoc, is that it's really easy to speed up and fly too fast. But in the Apaches, it's not as quick to reach overspeed. Is this something wrong with the havoc, or am I just too aggressive at flying biggrin

Hi Messyhead, I just test flew the Havoc and it doesn't seem to be out of control in any way. I did adjust the physics parameters a week ago, though. Have you tested it since I adjusted everything?

It might just be me. I always seem to get to overspeed in the havoc faster than in the apache. I'll try it again being more methodical and see how it is.

Maybe you're just a speed demon, Messyhead!

I've tested all of the helos and there are 5 that don't take Center-of-Gravity input from the dyn files for some reason. Those helos are the following:
Mi-24 Hind, Ka-50 Blackshark, Ka-29 Helix, V-22 Osprey, CH-46 SeaKnight.
There may also be additional dyn file parameters that are not read in, I only tested the COG since that was what I was working on.
The Kiowa has a different problem, it reads in the dyn file, but the main rotor thrust gets neutered by the throttle code making it fly under-powered.

Quite a lot of the code for the new helos code was copied from one of the existing ones, so the Kiowa might have been taken from the Comanche if that helps figure out the problem. You can usually tell by looking at the gunships code, as there'll be references still to code that it was copied from.
