You are also of course free to ignore the facts presented regarding successful Kickstarter projects if you wish; I was merely presenting the possibility that the WWII project might have failed not due to KS but due to ED. No need to get all up in a huff about it. wink

No worries there, Force10. Johnny_Redd and I are on the same page on ED smile I just didn't want him to think ill of Kickstarter due to ED's incompetence. There have been many successful KS projects, one of which a few SimHQ members are currently enjoying greatly -- Battletech!! Launched in KS in September 2015 and released in April 2018, it's been an awesome experience to see a game go from funding to release especially from a dev group that seems to know what they're doing.

I just think credit should be given where it is due and we should do the same with assigning blame.

I bought the A10C prior to launch and did the same for the FA-18 and bought the new map today. I have been away from simming for a few years now but there's no doubt in my mind I've gotten way more than my money's worth from the A-10 and fully expect the same from the FA-18. I came in to the hobby @ 1995 and have watched as the number of sims has declined and declined to very few choices so I'm gonna support this company for as long as they produce stuff for me to fly and blow stuff up with!

I get that DCS isn't perfect but what is and who do we compare it to in today's terms? Anyway, whatever you decide it's your money so power to you!

I don't dispute that anyone who has bought the A-10C module, especially if you bought it back in the day, would have gotten their money's worth out of it. However, a **LOT** has changed since then. I think if we had the ED of 2010-2011, I would be more supportive of the Hornet but alas, such is not the case frown Please do a little bit of research. The release of the Hornet will be nowhere near how the Warthog was released.

I believe he is referring to the Dave Kinney F-35 KS saga.

Good to see someone else remembers the fail that Kinney Interactive would bring to DCS. for the record SinCityJet, I have all so mentioned this failure in the hawk thread numerous times.

I see. I was vaguely aware of this project although I didn't know it was a scam.

A funny little tidbit from one of your linked sites dated 4 years ago:
Quote
In all honesty, I don't think we all need to worry, huss and fuss too much about the 3rd party programs. I have a pretty good faith in Wags to be able to show these developers the door if it does not live up to the standards that he, Eagle Dynamics, and The Fighter Collection want. Give it time, and don't worry about the 3rd parties. The people in ED and TFC are plenty good enough to be able to tell if work is good enough or not. Just look at BST and the Huey, and eventually the Hip. Wags definitely will have the final say.

Guess that turned out differently, huh? wink

I recall when my co-admins at LockOnFiles were looking at me sideways when I brought up the very real likelyhood of "someone" (cough RUSSIA) using "sock-puppet" social media techniques to stir up support for a scam and shout down opposition to it. This was in JULY 2013, three years before folks speaking the same language used the same techniques managed to get some American fools to buy another scam. (45)

(Because we'll never find this out from the Eagle forums, I'm not sure if it's true that ED had deep and long ties to the Russian military and "intelligence" community, much like Kaspersky, whose scanning of American computers resulted in Russia gaining critical CIA software tools.)

The SEC was notified about the MadCatz scam, and shortly thereafter, mysteriously, the SEC stopped trading of their stock, and before the company went bankrupt, all of the executives involved in the Kinney acquisition were terminated for cause.

So where is Kinney? The last time ED mentioned him, we were told to wait until we saw the F-35 before saying anything. It's been nearly five years, WAGS.

You will be banned for a year if you mention F-35 https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1815022&postcount=2028

Last report says Kinney's running an arcade on a San Diego boardwalk.

Oh, the irony!

If it does not meet our standards, it will not be published. Simple. I will reserve judgment for the final product, as should the rest of you.

So, 5 years on, anyone want to wager a guess as to how high ED's standards are? smile

I wish there was a pre-order bundle with both for further discounts. I'm seriously thinking of getting the map but may also get the Hornet because the number of games I'm interested in purchasing this year is pretty slim:

- Ready or Not, might not make a 2018 release
- Ace Combat 7, might not make a 2018 release
- Battlefield 5 (maybe)

Been a while since I purchased any PC game. At the same time, I'm not sure I want to pre-order the Hornet because it will undergo constant updates for months if not a year or more. Maybe if the Harrier goes on sale I'll get that...

Way over in Perth, Western Aus...
I am more interested in the terrain and will probably get that.

I'm going to give the handicapped Hornet a miss until it is more finished - ie has AG radar...

I'm thinking of getting the Harrier, maybe it will go on special once the Hornet comes out.

Does anyone have a link to an good unbiased review of the DCS Harrier?

SimHQ used to publish good reviews but I haven't seen any for a long time?

The Harrier is a good pre Hornet module. IMO

The harrier is a lot of fun, but it is also missing quite a few features and has some bugs. If you are only interested in feature complete aircraft, I can't recommend it. It's not like VEAO bad, it has just had a steady stream of additions and improvements, some of which are bugged at the moment (vapor, DMT axis slewing, etc.). Nothing game breaking for me, but again, if you want it in new car condition, I would wait.

To those that have pre-purchased either or both modules, can I ask why would you buy now and not wait for a more complete product, especially for the Hornet? Can I also ask how many and which of the DCS products you own? I'm thinking if you only have a few modules and you're buying the Hornet because, well, it's the Hornet, then fair enough or if you are a completist and must-have-everything, then again, fair enough, but for others??

I really cannot understand pre-purchases logic anymore. First of all this is not a finite product so in terms of availability there is no reason. In the past the reason to do this was due to massive discount but today when a game is launched the price remains basically the same or drops after a few weeks. I remember when i pre-purchased Arma 3 with the marketing that final price will be more expensive only to find out that they final price was actually the same i paid for months earlier and there are multiple cases like this.

Speaking of ED itself i would like to anticipate that they don't need instant money, they are not out of cash so the 'i want to support' excuses don't hold since if you like the FINAL product you will buy it no matter what. People fail to understand that when you do thing like this you don't put any pressure on the software house which translates in lazy development or never ending projects.

Baffles me as well, gamers seem to have been condtioned & cuck'd to it over the last decade.

I too remember pre-orders being useful pre-internet when the local games store would actually run out of copies for the good stuff on launch day, but now ED have successfully convinced the morons that paying $60 is a 'discount'

They might of well said full price was 8 million dollars and pre order now for a 70,000% discount, it just mental gymnastics.

DCS has become a massive churn & burn exercise, im pretty much done with it.
