I was noticed my touchscreen wasn't working today so decided to figure out what was wrong and for some reason drifted to the motherboard website and noticed a new BIOS was available. I decided to update the BIOS using the Gigabyte update utility and it went fine as far as I could see. PC reboots, Gigabyte logo comes up, and then a click and the PC reboots again. If left alone, it would just do this over and over. Initially, I thought the reboots were just part of the upgrade process but after 3 minutes or more of constant rebooting, I guess by this time something is wrong.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte Z170-X Gaming 7 board with an i5 6600K. I've updated the BIOS on this at least 3x before using the BIOS update utility with no problems so no idea why this one went awry. I've tried downloading and installing the F22m and F22i versions via Q-Flash but no joy, it will startup, show the logo, then click and restart again.

Any advice/suggestions/ideas? Thanks!

I think you know more about your problem than I do. I have not had a busted BIOS in years.

I do update BIOS regularly. I do usually buy Gigabyte partly to get the dual BIOS -- just in case. But, I've not had to try to replace a broken Gigabyte BIOS.

Having said all that: Can the Gigabyte MB itself transfer the working BIOS from its working BIOS chip to the chip with the bad BIOS -- maybe using a Gigabyte utility or hitting the right key at the right time?? I was ass-u-me-ing that I could do that if I had your problem -- but never checked it.

Just a thought -- maybe not a solution.

This is the first time I've encountered it to be honest. And guess what? I had the switch set to single-BIOS instead of the dual-BIOS setting! smile

Reset CMOS and I'm back to the F22i BIOS but it automatically popped up a message saying it detected a BIOS reset. Meh. I updated to F22m, let it reboot, and it went straight through to the OS. Wasted about 2 hours, dammit! But learned something new biggrin Namely set that switch to dual-BIOS! If only it wasn't too hard to take my PC in/out of my simpit!

Thanks for the help Allen!
