Just PLEASE don’t have everyone pronounce it “Dyoon.”

I watched “Jodorowsky’s Dune” last night, it definitely seems like it would have been a visual spectacle but the story seems like it would have been just as F’d up as Lynch’s version.

but the story seems like it would have been just as F’d up as Lynch’s version. Many changes were indeed made from the novel but we also need to remember that Lynch did not have full creative control over the movie. He was even quoted in interviews saying that the script was a compromise between what he wanted and what the producers wanted.

I didn't enjoy the original at all.In fact I never made it all the way through,it made me lose the will to live tbh. That was the 'special edition' I believe, quite a long film.

The special extended edition is terrible because it consists of new scenes that were just thrown in without any consideration to proper editing or continuity. Lynch was not involved at all with that version and in the opening credits it doesn't even have his name. Instead it shows "Alan Smithee" which is the pseudonym used by directors when they don't want to be associated with a movie they made.

I see. I just watched the wrong version then, thanks Panzer. You're welcome. On Youtube there is an excellent behind the scenes documentary of the making of "Dune". It really was a tragic soap opera.

Watch this fanmade re-cut version, instead: https://archive.org/details/Dune1984AlternativeEditionReduxfaneditHe tries to stay truer to the source material and provide context to all the scenes through how he pieced it together. Besides the jarring film differences in a few spots, it is quite well done. I wish I could find the original release, as the one stored on archive skips frames every now and again. Dune is awesome--one of the greatest works of literature from the 20th century; the imagination of Herbert was vast when he wrote the original novel. Admittedly, though, he did borrow much of the structure and lore from Earth society, but the emotional and dramatic impact the overarching story made surpasses the inspirational spring. Edit: FYI the link above is the second fan edit version, and that one is geared to be more like the book. I have not watched it, however, and was mistaken, but now that I know about it, I'll watch it and see... Below, you'll find a second link to the version I have already watched, which is geared more towards Lynch's original vision: https://archive.org/details/DuneTheCompleteSagaVimeoAnd a brief note on the differences between the two: http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Dune-The-Complete-Saga-by-Michael-Warren-August-2015/id/18152If you can't already tell, I /love/ dune. And though it is essentially the hero's journey mixed with a healthy dose of human mythos, the concept is so strongly put together I can't help but agree that it is sci-fi's Lord of the Rings. As a writer myself, I only hope some day I can create something a fraction as well as Herbert did.
