You guys in the US have no clue how lucky you are about your burger joints.

All we get here is McD and BK. Whataburger, InNOut... not happening.

I'd take a decent European deli over almost any of these burger joints, if I'm going to eat out.

Anyways you can easily make a better burger at home.

True that. The Burgers I made with my Ex were spectacular. Haven't yet made the effort to make them all for myself though.

Local takeaways are Domino Pizza, Maccas and KFC.

There are though some excellent Thai, Indian and Chinese restaurants that do takeaway. Come to think of it we have three pubs that serve very good pub food, schnitzels, steaks, etc etc.

Home cooking most times though. Tonight my wife is attending some BS International Womans Day thing. I'm having bacon sandwiches and our three dogs think that's an excellent choice. No HP sauce though, that tasty barbarism is reserved for bangers and mash.

Well....duh!!!

Not entirely true. I spent a month in Banska Bystrica Slovakia working out of the Sliac airport and although we enjoyed the local cuisine a lot, there were a couple of times we had to work late and sent somebody to a McD's for double quarter pounders...and they tasted just like they do here in the States.

KFC on the other hand...don't Europeans eat bone in chicken? All the Slovak KFCs had were boneless tenders...lol.

Was that McD's close to any kind of US military base or installation? If yes then it's possible that store gets its beef from the US in order to suit the American taste.

The way you phrased that begs the question...

How did she taste?

There are zero US military bases anywhere near Solvakia...lol. We were on a goodwill operation (Operation Atlantic Resolve) working with the Slovak Air Force who are kind of like my base's NATO partner (sister city type thing). Nearest US mil installation would be in Germany I believe...and that would be like 500 -600 miles away.

Yeah but In N Out is tasty, and costs half as much as McDonalds. Only problem is sometimes the wait can be longer than more upscale restaurants because it is so crowded.

Lived in California for almost 40 years and I just don't get the love for In-N-Out. Their burgers are nothing special and the fries are nothing to rave about either.
Not saying I won't eat there but there is nothing special about it.

I actually don't like In N Out fries, but I think the burgers are far better than any other fast food option.

The 5 Guys around here are OK, but overall I have been underwhelmed.

Finally tried 5 guys...also underwhelmed.

The availability of grilled onions was cool...the fact they were cold...not that cool. Better than Mickey D's for almost DOUBLE the price.

Damn you guys gave me a craving and went to Wendy's for a couple of cheese burger, fries and a smoothy.

I think I felt the same way when I was stationed in SoCal from 86-90. A buddy of mine from Pico (who lives in Corona now) took me to an old one around San Berdoo or maybe Glendale once and I thought it was pretty decent. We may have even had one near Hesperia near Victorville (where I was stationed at George AFB), However, In N Out only stretches to the east as far as Texas maybe and I live in Indiana. I've eaten at them in Salt Lake, Tucson, and Vegas...and they're ALWAYS busy. I think, compared to other fast food chains, their burgers are fresh and hand made compared to frozen preportioned burgers from McDs, Hardee's/Carl's Jr, Wendys, BK etc. Their fries are hand cut on the spot from fresh potatoes and to me are just awesome...lol. I guess the reason I like them so much is because I can't get it here.

I'd probably put them in the same category as Rally's/Checkers, Steak and Shake, or Five Guys.

They don't know how to make hamburgers in Europe and if you do get a hamburger from a shop in the UK or France and the menu said "hamburger" ..... it could be sheep or horse meat - not from cow.

Have both Five Guys and IN-N-OUT burgers here in Town. Mehh. I have not been back. The In N Out stays packed though.
Raw, for chains, I love the burgers from Applebees! Thick, and cooked over wood fired ovens. Very good.

However, if we are not eating off of the Charcoal Alter in my backyard, there is a place in town that makes burgers that will make you stand up and shout at the kitchen with praise.
He mixes fresh Angus ground beef with brisket, slaps some jalapenos, cheddar, and BBQ sauce on it and calls it a Cowboy Burger
But the BOMB is the BBQ Burger; fresh ground Angus, slab of Pork belly, spicy grilled onions, gouda cheese and bbq Ranch sauce.

LIttle hole in the wall.
LOVE it.
