Glad your experience was a good one.

I think I go to McD's once a year...to remember why I don't go to McD's...lol. Or maybe because every once in awhile I get the urge for their double quarter pounder with cheese...which isn't too bad. I'm not really a fan of their fries. Their hot turnover pies though...OMG...and when they have blueberry...YES!

McD's fries are good, but not great. I never go to McD's for a burger unless I'm outvoted by those I am with, I much prefer Burger King to McD's. And I prefer Hardees over Burger King. But above any of those I prefer a couple of local Greek owned chains, "Petes" and "Clock" restaurants, for really good burgers/fries.

LOL chips like those they call half potatoes here.
The friet originated in Belgium and not France and they are quite fierce about their status here. You can find them from Steppegras to ones as thick a finger but the normal friet/fried potato chip is about 5mm on a side, oh and served with mayonnaise

I did want to like BurgerKing and maybe sometimes their burgers are better but most BK places are just empty and even those that have a good number of customers, the place looks run down. A BK spot actually closed down on the high street; what's up with that?

We have two burger chains here, the local one is Quick which has since been taken over by Burger King, in 1971 Quick was the first "McD" styled burger chain in Europe with now around 400 outlets across Belgium, Luxembourg and France.

The other one we have is McDonalds.

Its been 3 weeks since my last McD and it was not a good experience, we were pressed for time and it seemed like a good idea at the time... We were picking up decorating material and exchanging a pot of paint and popped into the McD on the Great Western Road near Glasgow on our way back to one of my houses, as we don't particularly like McD's food anyway this one was even worse.

We also have a few Pizza Hut outlets but by far the biggest "fast food" are the kebab shops

Just the simple fact that the McDonald's stores in Europe use completely different beef and chicken vendors from the McDonald's stores in the US means that the taste WILL be significantly different. I say this because I've had several American friends who have gone to Europe and told me that eating at a McDonalds there is not the same as in the US.

Well....duh!!!

Probably has something to do with the bread too. I hear that US bread is quite sweet.

I also heard, from where I can't remember, that when McDonald's opened up in Australia it had to be defined as confectionery according to their standards :/

I go to Rotten Ronnies when I am constipated. Works every time.

Love that place. I especially like the big jalapeno put on top of the burger!

Whataburger started in my home town, Corpus Christi. For health reasons though we gave up fast food long ago.

Plan on living forever do ya?

If you eat well 90% of the time you don't have to worry about the other 10% generally. If someone really enjoys the taste/flavor of a certain fast food joint...going once every other month isn't going to do any harm.

I think Haggart was probably making the point that it is easier for some people to go "cold turkey" since they won't have to worry about being tempted and over doing it if they just try to eat fast food once in a while.

Very similar to Sonic, but still somehow better.

For chain restaurants, gotta say Outback and Chilis have the best hamburgers and they aren't those thin patties either. If the place asks you how you want it and can do a good med-rare, that's going to be a good one.
Good bacon, buns and cheddar too. The only better cheeseburgers I've had were made by me or a locally owned place.

For me, looking forward to that weekly cheat meal makes everything else a breeze, not to mention being fun. It still works into my daily regiment since that's likely my only meal for the day.
It's like giving up massive amounts of cheap beer when you learn that one or two high quality beers is actually more enjoyable.

when you factor in the potatoes, oil and equipment and time... its probably not that much cheaper to make them yourself.

If you bought the equipment for only the purpose of making one batch of fries but most people amortize the cost out over several meals and several different dishes. As for time to prepare a meal fast food will always be done quicker than preparing things for yourself at home.

Weekly Costs

According to one experiment conducted by Oakton Community College, when three meals per day per person were purchased from fast-food restaurants, the total cost was $87 per week. In contrast, by purchasing all whole ingredients from grocery stores, the estimated cost for three meals per day, per person came out to $43 per week. The experiment concluded that by preparing all three meals from home, the average person could save approximately $45 per week, when compared to eating out.

Paying For Convenience

The Oakton Community College experiment also calculated the price of whole food items per person, per week. The cost of most grocery store items was between $1 and $2 per person, per week, with the most expensive items being tortillas at $5.60 and cheese at $4. In contrast, the STMF study noted that the average cost of a single fast-food meal from a lunch or dinner menu was nearly $6. While fast-food does have the singular advantage of being more convenient, healthy foods provide much greater nutrition at a fraction of the cost.

Several other studies have concluded the same thing when it comes to the costs of eating out versus preparing your own food at home.
