Thanks for this. I will definitely give the 2 hour pilot a shot! And what a great cast!! Jared Harris, Ciaran Hinds, Tobias Menzies. It's nice to see Hiinds and Menzies reunite again after they both starred in "Rome" AND "Game of Thrones".

Wow, that looks awesome! First I’ve heard of it. Some really interesting shows set in the past these days. The Alienist has been creepy but really good.

This indeed looks like very good production and story. I will safely assume that it is based on The Franklin Expedition (HMS Terror and HMS Erebus). If so, I very much hope they stick to historical facts and not involve "monsters" and/or "zombies". It has been concluded that many of the crew suffered from a concoction of lead poising, pneumonia and tuberculosis besides the extreme cold which brought their early deaths. If they stick to the book, there will be a fairly big supernatural element to the story.

Yup. That was made quite clear on the official webpage for the show that Clipper included in his post. From the site, "The cast and creators examine how fact and fiction blend to create dread and danger in this haunting, suspenseful drama. Don’t miss the two-hour series premiere Monday, March 26 at 9/8c on AMC."

" I very much hope they stick to historical facts and not involve "monsters" and/or "zombies". "
It seems that they are going the monster route. I saw some trailers that actually show some of it. And some scenes of crewmembers being yanked off of the ship by whatever it is. It's going to be hard to stick to the "based on a true story" claim if they're doing that. Inspired by, would probably be more accurate. That said, though, it does look good. I do want to see it.

It's going to be hard to stick to the "based on a true story" claim I don't know, since there are no actual qualifiers for such a statement. Based to what degree? That doesn't matter, since this quote connoted authenticity. The typical movie-goer will not look any deeper than that., To them, it is now a 'true story'. You know how it works. Sheeple. It's like 'one of the best movies of the year'. Which says exactly nothing. But you see it on most movie ads. It's something that all critics run out there. It's golden, because it requires no qualification, no standard. Best 5 movies? Best 5000 movies? Is it safe to assume that if a critic's quote is used in the ad campaign, that the critic is paid for it?

Even that falls afoul of the same scrutiny PM. Number one in what exactly? Alphabet? Samoans in the cast? Catering mishaps? It's all smoke and mirrors marketing-speak, but luckily the folks around here are smart enough to see through it. Right? But the rest of the world...sheesh The whole industry is smoke and mirrors, an illusion. Highest-grossing movie of all time! Umm, yeah, because tickets are ten times more expensive. It all means nothing, but the sheeple slurp it up.

Yep, the novel (Dan Simmons) was absolutely stunning and in fact did not need the so called supernatural element ...hoping they don't give it too much importance!

Ooh, I didn’t see it was Dan Simmons. I loved Ilium/Olympos and Hyperion.
