I have checked my Preferences several times and I can't find a way to change the default setting. As it is now every thread in which I post is added to my followed threads list. I want to change it to something less obtrusive.

The only option is when you post in a thread - using the fulll editor not quick reply. There is an option at the bottom : "Add this thread to my Followed Threads" with radio button set by default.
Uncheck that when you post to thread you don't want to follow.

Nice if it were Unset by default.

Thanks I never noticed that before. I will give it a try but I agree the default for that feature should be unchecked.
