I'm really worried and I probably shouldn't be, but, I can't get the thought out out of my mind and it is driving me insane. Are dying threads dying? I haven't seen many today and I don't know what to make of it. On one side, I'm slightly relieved, that maybe, for a moment, worries are subsiding, but likewise, rather than ebbing, my own worries are flowing that perhaps the worries still persist that worries of dying aren't really dying but instead are stirring without outlet and if if they stay bottled up too long, they may come gushing back like a roaring volcano and I'm not so sure the SimHQ forums can handle that.

Alas, these thoughts persist... Tell me, oh great Sim HQ, should I be worried?

We should have a smiley with a sign that says, are threads dying?

I've heard it said by some with many years here that Community Hall is slowly dying and i can tell also that CH is not as vibrant as it once was (in my opinion)

When I joined SimHQ almost 15 years ago (including several months of lurking), I paid very little attention to Community Hall. There just wasn't time, with the flight sim boards being so active. This was a time you could still walk into a CompUSA and grab a box, or at least a bargain CD for many of the classic sims. Then trying current mods for all the sims I was interested in, it was hard to keep up.

Which begs the question: with the flood of "is it dying" threads recently why hasn't there been a "Are Flight Sims Dying" thread?

Not long ago I was doing some digital house cleaning and came upon a saved I.E. Favorites listing from the early years, including about 30 flight sim-related websites and message boards. Most of them are now gone or inactive. frown

LOL! Are you kidding? smile I've seen several of those threads on SimHQ over the past couple of years.

True but given the trend I would expect a new one to pop up.

Nah, dying threads are just fine. No worries.
If CH is dying it’s partially due to some trying to turn it into PWEC. wink

actually just the opposite - CH used to be a place where you could discuss a topic from a non-political perspective ....for example GUN CONTROL - WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS TO THAT COULD BE DONE TO PROTECT OUR SCHOOL KIDS FROM A NON-POLITICAL PERSPECTIVE

Currently you cannot post such a discussion in CH without it be locked almost immediately.

Another example: CLIMATE CHANGE FROM A NON-POLITICAL PERSPECTIVE - A TECHNICAL DISCUSSION ONLY

Again ..... there's no way i would post it in CH because the moderators would not be likely to allow it and if anyone tried to disrupt the discussion by turning to politics the moderators would lock it and move it to PWEC instead of warning the person to tried to turn it into a political discussion.

Both gun control and climate change are inherently very political topics. You should know that Haggart.

Ah, the bad old days before the PWEC, where getting a week long ban was pretty much normal for the average regular visitor.

The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events.

Panzer - it doesn't have to be ..... if we talk about ways to protect school kids such as using armed guards does that have to be political ? If we talk about human activities in climate change vs natural contributions to CO2 lvs does that have to involve a political discussion ?

It does not but there are people who will attempt to turn it into one even you post ahead of time ....NO POLITICS PLZ ....i've seen it happen many times and when it does it gets locked end of story

You're getting confused with that other SimHQ. The SimHQ I remember had 90% percent of topics devolve into arguments.

The modern Sim-HQ CH only has a bunch of lame-ass "Are XXXX Dying" threads going on.

Such is the horror of this age.

I don't know if you are baiting or not but gun control and climate change are political topics to the very core. Those topics wouldn't have lasted civil for 5 secs in the old CH.

There are plenty of other examples besides those two that can turn into a political discussion if people try to do it but i also understand SimHQ moderation not wanting to spend their time enforcing such rules on topics that would have to be more closely monitored. So if you leave out many real world discussions that leaves CH as is now. If that works best for the moderators then so be it. Maybe CH can stay as is for many more years, idk but it could also be done away with as there are plenty of simulation/game, software and hardware forums already in place at SimHQ and you don't really need a forum to discuss your best vacation or post another obituary.

A lot of people on SimHQ don't play sims anymore. Heck, a lot of them don't even play PC games anymore period. CH goes away and the posting traffic on SimHQ will drop down to a trickle.

Just my 2 cents of course. smile

Look down at "Air Combat & Civil Aviation" and remember how it use to be, especially if you enjoy the classic sims...

no its not, pwec was a compromise becouse during the bush years it got very heated here, i was a teenager then and very mouthy, pretty sure i almost got the ban hammer twice, 20mm was onto me just waiting his turn, but i always manage to pull out just before it got over the line.
we lost many long time contributers too becouse of arguments over the pwec fence and also moding (gaming not forum rules), there was a time il2 become modders vs vanilla and people were very vocal, EAW forum also got shut down becouse of this i believe.

hey mark G, is that a poster for janes f-15 or the american box was like that ? cos at least that ilustration was the one used here for jane's f-15E . Man i remeber how thick the manual for f-16 was, hahah best purchase i've made, the guy at the store told me it was too complex for me (12) i looked at his face like, its a challenge then, spent many noons reading all about the combat techniques......but to this day i still ahve to use autopilot to refuel :P
also why do you have two falcon 4.0 ?
