Hey Moses. I've been following you're effort for quite awhile, and I can only say "Hats Off !" I have a weight problem myself that I have been struggling with for pretty much all my life, and find you're effort inspiring 210# now, looking to make it to 180# (weight on my Draft Card ). <S> VaCreeper, aka 195th_Creeper

273 lbs today. not eating meat for 7 days only vegtables. 4 more days to go. I'm curious about the choice to not eat meat. I've read that lean meats are actually quite good if you are trying to lose weight. What you need to stay away from are the carb heavy foods like rice, bread, pasta, etc.

A little challenge keeps things lively and interesting, plus learning some new recipes to work in. I didn't lose anything the last several weeks, so I'm hitting it hard again now.

That's awesome, Moses. If my math is correct, you're averaging just a little over half a pound a day right now, since getting into the 200's around the middle of November. Don't get discouraged when your rate of loss slows down, and it will as you start closing in on your goal (whatever that might be). And that's a good thing really, because you want your overall average to be no more than about a pound or two a week, giving your body a chance to catch up. Even if you end up with a little loose skin when you're done, it'll be less by losing at a slower pace, and you'll probably tighten up even more over time, as your body adjusts to your new lower weight. Supposedly drinking plenty of water and eating good fats like avocados and olives help with this, also exercising. If you're not working out, now's the time to start thinking about it (and I bet at this point you actually *feel* like working out, right?). Being lighter AND stronger just feels so freaking fantastic, especially when going from being overweight and sedentary, to lighter and fitter. I applaud those who have kept it in check all of their lives, but it's also nice knowing how it feels in both conditions, being able to compare (although I'd choose the former if I could live my life over again). And then eventually you'll have to figure out how to maintain the loss, but man, don't worry about that yet. Just keep at it. P.S. Your hp/weight ratio is continually improving! That Camaro has so much hp and torque that the driver's weight probably makes no difference, but it's an interesting way of looking at it, I think.

Do you guys find that your body fights back losing weight every 15-20 lbs or so? I swear it's extra hard for 2-3 weeks before things get moving again. I also think that any extra salt results in an easy gain in water weight even if nothing else is really different. It's like beating my own body into submission sometimes.

Although it was almost 10 years ago when I lost the bulk of my weight, I've looked for trends on our weight-loss chart (link below, weighed in every Sunday morning) and couldn't find any, except for gaining weight when we made trips home to Baton Rouge (while living in Jax, FL). The chart was never complete though, we had already started losing ~3 months prior, and continued losing past the final date. I keep meaning to start tracking it regularly again (mine only, wife is finished), just not motivated enough to bother with the "paperwork" part of it right now. I've also been lazy with recording regular BP numbers, doc is going to want to see consistency if I'm ever to be taken off the pills. <Attachment too large, not sure how to fix...sorry Moses, trying something else.> Link of weigh-in chart (from attachment on Diet and Training thread)... http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/download/Number/444/filename/old_weights.png

Yeah, I see what I'm talking about on there. For instance, 9/28/08 to 10/19/08, I see you had issues getting stuck around that same weight (give or take due to water, time of day...usual factors) and then a quick drop and progress. Again 1/11/09 to 2/1/09, about 15 lbs later, then a quick drop followed by progress. That kind of thing doesn't mean no progress, but it's irritating as all hell day by day. I suspect it's more a water related thing than fat since that's easy to put on quickly. I think my body over the years was so used to storing extra water that it wants to go back to that. It seems to take much less salt to trigger it. Even on a high salt day it's still a fraction of what I would've had before and still in the range of healthy consumption, but it's still more than I normally have day to day. I try not to worry about it, I know I can shed water weight quickly if I buckle down more during those times. This could also indicate a spurt of muscle growth offsetting regular fat loss, so it could even be a good thing in the long run. That's the problem with watching weight alone too closely.
