Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

It's just a random scary graphic.

@ OG - man, that is a huge friggin' airport!

As always, the pictures of the recovery were in relatively good conditions. "Wreck in the rain, pick up the pieces in sunshine," is an old saw in aviation.

It is too early to judge anything.

But an engine failure in extreme IFR conditions is a nightmare and difficult if not impossible to recover from in a single engine aircraft. It is hard enough to do in VFR conditions.

Let's wait to see what actually happened here before speculating too much.

I wonder what his experience level was. The 340 is no beginners airplane, for sure. There is a tendency for pilots with a lot of money to buy airplanes that they just arent ready for. JFK jr come to mind. I'm not trying to put this whole thing on the pilot without knowing all of the facts. Just wondering. Don't think that weather was a factor. A witness said he heard the airplane start to take off and only seconds later heard the crash. So he didn't get up high enough for weather to be a problem unless he hit something, and that would be obvious immediately.

There's also the possibility that he had some kind of medical event.. but that will have to wait for a coroners examination, if there's enough left to examine.

One of the toughest things to do is transition from rotation to being on instruments in IMC.

Your body is already thrown off at that point, plus you've got gear to get up, props to pull back, etc. all while hand flying in 0/0 conditions with your body likely screaming at you because the rotation makes you feel like you are tilting back further and further.

Noway would I try it.

That's why I use the "golf rule" in flying.

If I wouldn't want to pull a bag for 18 holes on the golf course, I don't fly over it.
