When are we gonna go to the next level for controllers in flight sims? These new sticks look great but they still flop around like limp noodles. The ultimate step is of course super strong direct drive FFB sticks that you will not be able to move at full force but for now we can try to push these devs for at least FFB at MSFFB levels?

We need this type of immersion in flight sims....especially with VR looming on horizon

VKB repeatedly say that don't have the money need for pay Immersion fees for use Force Feedback API, so FFB are are not in their plans, ate least "for a while" - despite they already has developed including a FFB rudder pedal. But dream is free... wink

After Logitech G-490 FFB failure difficult will see another FFB stick from traditional brands.

And Logitech own patents on FFB, so cost less for then make one, but they prefer save in wires and pot quality... ending killing in the market their own - without competition, product.

Deep in the Leng Plateau
The only FFB stick I used that I thought was good was one by CH Products back in the 90's. A CH fighter stick grip on an enlarged FFB base. The last was the--as Sokol pointed out--rather disastrous Logitech G940. Only VKB and Virpil (maybe) are in the high end flight control market--excluding some companies that cater to the actual simulation market. So unless they either of them try their hand at FFB I don't see it ever happening. Saitek is owned by Logitech which lost out on the G940, TM no longer seems interested in developing new high-middle level gear, and CH has been out of the game development seen for years.

I like the idea of FFB but it has always been a niche within a niche.

Racing sim wheels started the same way.I remember Dave Kaemmer of Iracing stated many moons ago that FFB would never work as the latency of PC to wheel can never be diminished etc etc.Just look at sim steering wheels nowadays.

That said I would pay for a gimbal that allows us to run an extension and gives a tight progressive feel with no flop.By tight I mean it would be tiring after awhile. smile

There's a few major differences though:
-Racing wheels, by nature of only needing to simulate force on one axis, can be more accommodating to different mount methods based on their simpler design. Putting the motor ahead of the wheel allows far more room for the electronics and mechanics.
-Flight sim sticks need to be mountable on desks or sim pits, and would require a more intricate design to allow for force on both axis. So you need a smaller foot print for a more complicated design.
-You need a wide range of motor power options, as folks with stick extensions (and more potential leverage) could burn out weeker motors (but possibly have more room for motors) but desk mounters need less power and a slimmer design.

And that's in addition to the software issues highlighted by sokol1.
