Contact! *sputter* *sputter* *explodes*

Gentlemen, I'm at the end of my rope!

I just made the plunge from WOFF 1.0 to the UE, and while the old version was running fine, I can't get the new one to work. The nature of the problem seems to scream DX9 to me, but I have no idea how to fix it.
- To the best of my knowledge the registry is clean (old WOFF and CFS installations). I didn't use the toolbox when uninstalling the old version, but I used it with the new one.
- I installed the exact version of DX9 named in the FAQ.
- I don't use DPI scaling (unless my Radeon driver has a separate setting for it I'm not aware of).
- I deactivated Avast.
(I wasn't asked for my copy of CFS3 during the installation, though that might no longer be necessary with the UE?)
- I installed the latest patch (4.17).
- I switched all graphics settings to the bare minimum (even went back to "default shaders").

Occasionally it crashes completely and produces the following woff.log:

EDIT: Just found this line in "mission.log":
2017/12/01 19:07:28 WARNING BuildCfg: can't access file 'D:\FlandersFields\OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields\buildCfg.xml'. Using default settings.

Might this be relevant? There doesn't seem to be a builfCfg.xml in my WOFF folder.

I just installed CFS3 and it runs perfectly fine with no compatibility issues whatsoever.

Trelawney, have you sent this off to OBD Support? If not I recommend you do so as it will likely be addressed much faster. Although OBD do check the forums, it is not their first go to on a daily basis. They are very busy developing WOTR These days, but I know they check their support email regularly.

Hope this helps

I had a problem with 'black screen with sound' a while back. It was solved by setting compatibility to Windows 7 for both the CFS3.exe and WOFF.exe programs.

I will try to post a link to the old technical issues thread:

Trelawney are you already contacting me in email support? As I said there we need all files in C:\OBDSoftware\WOFF\Logs (or in your case
D:\FlandersFields\Logs).

plus dxdiag plus MSINFO output as per the last 2 pages of the FAQ which explains all the files we'd need/.
Warning, DO NOT post logs them here some will have info you need to keep private.

Regarding your comment "Might this be relevant? There doesn't seem to be a builfCfg.xml in my WOFF folder."
No it's not relevant at all - ignore it. Many options are for devleopment only and info that only we will know what it means (not all in straight forward or obvious!)

http://www.overflandersfields.com/index_html_files/FAQ%20WOFF%20UE.pdf

See Section 35, did you try all of those?

Try setting cfs3.exe, right click Properties, compatibility, set to "run as an administrator"

WOFF is not vanilla CFS3 anymore it's dramatically different, and we run our OWN dll to do most things. The fact vanilla runs means exactly the same as another game working fine, i.e. it means nothing on a PC.

First of all: Thanks for the advice, guys! Sadly, the Win7 compatibility mode didn't help.

@Polovski: I haven't contacted support yet, since I didn't want to badger you during the weekend. I'll digest the information you posted and will contact support, soon.

Thanks for the help, again!

EDIT: Admin rights didn't help, I can hear the ambient sound (and my guns when pressing SPACE), but the screen remains black. Also yes, I have tried everything under Section 35.

Trelawney,

Apologies in advance if this sounds silly, but did you try just leaving the black screen with sound for a few minutes? I seem to recall that the first time I set up WOFF a few years ago it seemed to take a long time after loading the first mission for it to come up, and I thought I"d had a BSOD. I even Cntl-Alt-Del'd it twice before, on the third try, I walked away to get a drink and curse for a while, only to find the thing started when I was out of the room. It's a long shot, but I thought I'd share.

Nothing silly about it if it works. :-) Sadly, it didn't; I gave it a good 15 minutes to make sure. Thanks anyway!

Did you go get the correct drink? Raine, what were you having?

Latest drivers?
It's possibly creating *.bdp files, which means your install did not finish properly. Did the aircraft cloner program pop up and run at the end of the install?

See section 17 of the FAQ, nuke the instal, and try again, disable AV etc. Follow that through step-by-step anyway.l

A couple of easy things that might give a clue as to where the problem lies: If you exit the mission (cntrl+Q, Enter) does the screen come back to life? If you unplug and replug the monitor video cable does the screen come back to life?

@77_Scout: Exiting the mission brings up the "This flight will not be logged..." (or words to that effect) message and sends me to the debrief screen.

The cloner program ran and seemed to finish correctly (78 of 78).

I took my time and did the whole procedure by the book, twice (including installing it on a second admin account). Sadly, no change.
I'm about ready for a stiff drink now, but it's already well past my bedtime.

Will do another clean install tomorrow, then gather together all the logs and send them off.

Thanks for the advice, gents!

@Trelawney - it seems that I have found the source of your problems - the latest AMD drivers do not like WOFF, so I recommend you to downgrade your video card driver at least to version 17.4.
I have updated my AMD drivers today and experienced the same problem as you, so, immediatelly reverted to old 17.4.3 and everything was OK then.

FWIW, I'm running with 17.11.3 drivers and not experiencing any problems.

JJJ65, after reading your post, I updated to 17.12.1, and am not having any problems. Go figure.

I remember having black screen problems some years ago with WOFF3...there was a FAQ on how to resolve it, but am not sure how current that info might be.

@BirdDogICT - Perhaps you have different system (OS, Graphics, etc.). Mine is Windows 7 64, Radeon HD7870.
Simply - I am one hundred percent sure the driver 17.12.1 did not work for me with WOFF UE and reverting to old 17.4.3 fixed it immediatelly. I know the old fixes (Win 7 compatibility and so on), but this was difinitely AMD driver issue.

You, Sir, are a scholar and a saint! The old drivers did the trick! Now I can spend the holidays furiously installing drivers to see how current I can get before it breaks again.

A big Thank you to all for your help!
