Not different at all.

Product ceases to function after set period.

Authentication required.

Once parameters authenticated via ‘phone-home’, licence activated via internet, satisfying the ‘internet activation’ requirement as stipulated at purchase.

I play DCS and with latest AV8B Harrier module up until Midnight, go offshore for 3 weeks the next day, will I be OK to play again with no restrictions with new Harrier copy protection once I'm home?

Above is a hypothetical situation, I'm more dynamic, but it represents how I use DCS and would use the new Harrier module.

I really hope there are no major problems or headaches for me or any users, been looking forward to this Aircraft, this module for quite some time.

I understand I'll be able to use the Harrier in DCS World 2 OpenAlpha in coming weeks too ... right?

Yes,

When you return from the offshore you will simply login to your DCS account and it will run fine. If you come home and your internet is down, I guess you could have a temporary problem.

I must admit there is some logic to the concerns that someone going away from a steady internet connection with a semi-portable or laptop computer could experience a lock-out and not be able to play the game. I'm not positive that will happen, and the instances of something happening like this in todays environment would be rare, but it IS a valid concern that should be addressed.

The Harrier is expected to be released in the "stable" environments (1.5.* and 2.1.* and eventually 2.5) in the next few weeks.

Thanks

You really misunderstood what the key point is here. You couldn't be more way off base.

When anyone is away from an internet connection for more than 3 days or can't validate their installation.....the software ceases to function until it can re-authenticate. You are aware there is a single player mode/non-dynamic mission structure within DCS, you are aware not everyone has access to internet when they're away from home? For a game with a single player mode that doesn't require online connectivity to play it surely you can why a module that is part of the overall software package that ceases to function after 3 days without an internet connection is a bad idea....and especially so when that implementation is mentioned last minute and after some customers have already bought the product.

It's obviously pointless coming back with a reply every time that this DRM is the best thing since sliced bread......as long as you have got an internet connection and can re-authenticate after a period of time. Not everyone has that luxury for multiple reasons.

Really? Is it that hard to understand what Carefree is asking about and what leaf said? Jesus H. Christ. It's elementary reading comprehension.

You're absolutely right, it's elementary reading comprehension. You'll notice I don't quote 'Leaf' or 'Carefree' anywhere in my post and I'm not talking about his specific circumstances. If you read my post carefully, you'd notice that I talk about the KEY POINT (capital letters, bold and in red font, just for you) being that 3 days without an internet connection means software ceases to function.

You do know that I was talking about Carefree though, right? That's why I'm talking about your lack of reading comprehension... I'm talking specifically about his situation, for #%&*$# sake, this wasn't aimed at anyone else, and you started with the, so so clever btw, "You really misunderstood what the key point is here. You couldn't be more way off base." and then continue to post something completely irrelevant to what I was talking about. Again, #%&*$# read what Carefree asked.

So you've just admitted you didn't read my post properly before jumping in at the defence of ED......did anyone mention 'elementary reading comprehension'?

No, you didn't read the discussion between Carefree and Leaf, then you decided to make an inane rant about the copy protection just to troll.

Nope. I read it alright.....I just chose not to discuss Carefree's specific circumstance hence why I didn't quote him or even mention him in my post.....but you do realise that Carefree's concerns and posts are all about the copy protection don't you? Are we also talking about inane ranting now?

That's not a rant, that's swearing. Anyway, that's you admitting that you just like being a contrarian, disregarding the discussion we're having just to troll.

Amazing to think that anyone could defend this in any way.

I don't agree with the 3 days period, I prefer a month, but it's much better than starforce, that's for sure. And I don't think I've defended it in any way, I just dispelled some misconceptions.

My apologies!! Did you mean ED have released hard figures for their new map? Source?
Or did you mean ED did not do EXTENSIVE beta testing? Source?

I would love for you to back up your statement that I don't know what I'm talking about. Thank you!

Probably not - none of our business. One thing is however certain: Starforce Proactive is not cheap and if a company pays for that service for years on end then there has to be a very good reason for it.

Yeah.... ED are incompetents. If Starforce is good, then the company isn't really suffering from software piracy now, is it? If Starforce is bad, then what the heck is ED doing paying for that service for years?

Your excuses don't even hold up for very long.... no fun.

Which one do you choose?

So now, Starforce is doing a good job, yet DCS is bleeding money down the crapper due to piracy. Lolwut???

Actually, from looking at the vids and responses on mudspike, looks like razbam did a decent job on the harrier.

Me, I 'm still waiting on the hornet. Love the multi-role fighters. Till then, it's just my viper an me.

That might be the case, but it has been overshadowed by the new DRM fiasco.

Yep the new DRM fiasco is going to overshadow

1. Harrier Release
2. The big warm fluffy Letter from the bottom of Matts heart
It all sounded so good, but after the "surprise this new DRM just dropped out of the sky announcement" makes ED seem amateurish at best dishonest at worst

As a customer we are not entitled to nor will we ever know the reasons TFC/ED make business decisions. It is however common sense that business decisions made to date have served them well if they are still in business after 27 years.

Now they make another business decision, for reasons known only to them.

Yes, in this instance the timing was not great at all. Heck, the timing would in all probability never have been good.

How does making a sound business decision seem amateurish to you, or dishonest, for that matter?

Kindly explain if you don’t mind?
